WASHINGTON, DC: Climate activist Greta Thunberg strongly criticized President Donald Trump for his “civilization” remark, saying she is deeply disturbed by the idea of wiping out an entire society as tensions in the Iran conflict escalate.

She also pointed out that this issue is not getting enough attention, highlighting the dangers of ongoing threats linked to the situation in Iran. Her comments come as several members of the Democratic Party also condemned Trump’s statement, calling it extreme and unacceptable.

Her criticism came as the Iran conflict continued, along with talks about the Strait of Hormuz and possible discussions with Iran about the situation and what may happen next.

Thunberg shared a short 42-second video highlighting the ongoing war situation. She began her statement by saying, "The president of the United States just said that a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again, and no one is reacting."

She said the current situation shows how extreme things have become and questioned people’s response. "This speaks for itself. What is anyone even doing? At this point, we have normalized, total annihilation of entire people, the systematic destruction of the biosphere which we are all depending on to survive, and that corrupt, racist war criminals can act with complete impunity."

She also said it is still possible to stop these actions and urged people to take responsibility. "But even though we have allowed far too much so far, it is not too late to say stop if we don't. We shouldn't be able to call ourselves human."

Trump sets firm deadline as talks with Iran continue

Trump issued a strong warning tied to ongoing tensions with Iran, saying that failure to reach an agreement could lead to severe consequences, including the loss of an entire civilization.

“I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” he said Tuesday morning, April 7. “However, now that we have complete and total regime change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen.”

He described the deadline as a very important turning point and said the situation marks a long history of conflict. Referring to Iran’s leadership, he stated that “47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end.”

More recent developments suggest that Iran has shown a willingness to engage in talks, and the United States appears optimistic about the direction of discussions. On Wednesday, April 8, Trump posted about “world peace” and said the Middle East could be moving toward a “golden age.”
