Gypsy Rose Blanchard claims mom Dee Dee put 'voodoo hex' on her using cow tongue after runaway attempt
LOUISIANA, UNITED STATES: Gypsy Rose Blanchard, a former convict now happily married to Ryan Anderson, has made a shocking revelation in the latest installment of the six-part docuseries, 'The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard'.
The woman, now 32, claimed that her mother, Dee Dee, cast a "voodoo hex" on her after she tried to run away at the age of 19.
Blanchard, who was imprisoned for her involvement in the 2015 murder of Dee Dee, attributes her troubled love life, both before and during her prison term, to this supposed curse.
The series explores the life of Blanchard, who is believed to have been a victim of Munchausen by proxy, now referred to as factitious disorder imposed on another.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard's mom allegedly 'cursed' her with 'voodoo hex'
Gypsy Rose's shocking revelations have added an extra dimension to her already intricate narrative.
The woman met a 36-year-old man named Dan at a sci-fi convention, who later connected with her online.
Believing she was only 15, she was surprised to find out she was actually an adult. She decided to run away to be with Dan, but accidentally left her cell phone at home.
Her mother, Dee Dee, found the phone and discovered her plan through the messages.
Dee Dee managed to track her down by contacting other convention attendees, one of whom knew Dan's address.
"The first thing I say to her is, I know I'm 19 and I can stay here if I want to!" Gypsy recounted in the video. "She's like, if you come back with me, I will let you see him. At that point, I believed her."
She revealed that her mother had falsified her birth certificate to show her age as 15.
In retaliation for her escape attempt, her mother punished her by chaining her to the bed for a fortnight using handcuffs and a dog leash, both of which were linked to Dee Dee.
Gypsy further revealed, "She would not feed me every day and she would eat whatever she wanted."
She added that her mother started physically abusing her and kept a knife on her bedside table as a deterrent against any future escape attempts.
"After the two weeks I was chained, my mother put a voodoo hex on me. She printed out a picture of Dan and she printed out a picture of me and she went to the store and got a mason jar and a cow tongue," stated Gypsy Rose.
"She put the cow tongue in the mason jar with the two pictures and a little bit of my menstrual blood, put it in a mason jar, buried it in the backyard and said that you will never find love, you will never be happy," she added.
Why did Gypsy Rose believe the 'hex' was true?
Tears streaming down her face, Blanchard went on to explain why she was convinced that the hex was indeed true.
"I just think it's true because every time I get close to someone, they leave me. Many men write to me in prison, that's how I met Ken, we'd got engaged in 2019 but it didn't work out," she claimed.
"I was still such a young girl, I had so much to learn about relationships. And he left me. And it broke my heart. And so it's like I always bring it back to that curse, where I believe that it's true. She never wanted me to find love or be happy and I feel like that stuck," she added.
A cousin of Gypsy Rose also featured in the series and suggested that her allegations were not entirely implausible, given Dee Dee's character.
He drew attention to a wizard tattoo on her leg and mentioned they "would play with magic," play with Ouija boards, and practice spells during their younger years.
