CHILLICOTHE, MISSOURI: Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was recently freed from prison, has spoken out about the murder of her mother Dee Dee, who abused her for years by making her pretend to be sick.

She said she thought killing her mother was the only way to escape from her situation but believes she also had problems that she struggled with and believes she was not a monster.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s mother forced her into a wheelchair and shaved her head

Gypsy, now 32, was 23 when she enlisted her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill her mother, Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard, in their home in Springfield, Missouri.

Dee Dee who suffered from Munchausen by proxy had convinced Gypsy and others that she had various illnesses such as leukemia and muscular dystrophy.

She shaved Gypsy’s head, forced her into a wheelchair, had some of her teeth removed, and took her to charity events as a terminally ill child.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was ‘high’ on painkillers when she planned her mother’s murder

In an interview with ABC that aired on 'Good Morning America', Gypsy said she was addicted to prescription painkillers when she and Godejohn, whom she met online, decided to kill her mother.

"I don’t believe my mother was a monster. She had a lot of demons herself that she was struggling with," she said, adding "I didn’t want her dead, I just wanted out of my situation and I thought that was the only way out.

"I share my story to be a cautionary tale so that the next person that might be in a situation like mine they don’t take the route that I did," she continued.

She said she used pain medication as a way to cope with her abuse. "This is really hard to talk about because it took me down a really dark path. But I felt like it was my only way to cope for a time. I don’t blame drugs, I don’t blame anything. I don’t make excuses. Now I’m sober, I haven’t used in four years and I don’t feel the need to," she further said.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard wishes her ex-boyfriend well on his journey

When asked if it was fair that Godejohn should remain in prison while she is free, Gypsy said, "I am sure we both have a lot of regrets.

"All I can say is I did my time, he is doing his time for his part and I wish him well on his journey," she added.
