She compared the illness to acne or rosacea and said that it frequently causes "tiny red bumps that form on the lower half of the face" in the mouth and nose regions, per PEOPLE.
In her video, Hailey declared, "This is something that I have had since I was about 19 or 20."
"And I know a lot of other people deal with it and struggle with it as well. I'm having a pretty bad flare up right now so I wanted to share what I use when I'm having a flare up," she added.
Hailey showed her skin to her fans in the minute-long video, highlighting the red spots that have developed. In an attempt to alleviate her inflammation, Hailey revealed to her fans that she uses a prescription Azelaic Acid lotion exclusively, saying it "really helps."
"And in the day time, I use something called Clindamycin, which is also a prescription you can get from a dermatologist," the model added, explaining that the antibiotic aids to "stop the growth of bacteria on the skin."
Hailey stated that Glazing Milk, a product of her own Rhode skincare line, is the "only other thing" she uses besides her prescribed treatments to cure a flare-up of perioral dermatitis.
She called it a "super gentle" cream that "helps calm the skin" and "doesn’t irritate it any further."
"Perioral Dermatitis! Lets talk about it," Hailey wrote as the caption for the video which garnered great feedback and where her fans praised her for "opening up."
What is perioral dermatitis?
The American Academy of Dermatology Association (AAD) states that the condition usually manifests as a red rash around the mouth. For people with light-colored skin, like Hailey, the pimples that appear on the skin can mimic acne.
Perioral dermatitis is described by the AAD as having a visual appearance, but it can also "itch" and "create a burning sensation."
The Cleveland Clinic states that women between the ages of 25 and 45 who "use topical steroids, face creams and more" are more likely to develop the ailment, which is described as "common" with "effective treatments."
Hailey Bieber' past health struggles
According to Byrdie, Hailey initially spoke about the skin condition in 2022 when she shared an Instagram Story and said that she had it "for a few years." At the time, the model expressed her desire to be “as transparent as possible about my skin."
Hailey has been upfront about her previous health issues, including a minor stroke she had in 2022 that helped doctors diagnose her heart problem.
The 27-year-old model previously revealed on her Instagram Story that a year had gone by since the medical emergency that finally allowed her to be diagnosed with Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO).
Patent Foramen Ovale is a disorder that causes a hole to form in the wall between the left and right side of her heart, per PEOPLE.
Baldwin Bieber wrote on Instagram, "Can't believe it's been one year since I suffered a mini stroke that led to my PFO diagnosis," and included a YouTube video she made a year before detailing how she learned about the illness.
She disclosed at the time that the PFO closure process had gone "very smoothly" and that she was recovering.
