Hailey Bieber's uncle Billy Baldwin acknowledges her marriage to Justin Bieber is 'complicated', advises couple to 'keep it real'

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Despite the fact that Justin and Hailey Bieber are expecting their first child together, there are still persistent speculations about their relationship issues.

After acknowledging that the couple's marriage is "complicated," Hailey's uncle Billy Baldwin isn't adding to the rumors anymore, leaving admirers to wonder what it means.

Rumors that Hailey, 27, and Justin, 30, were going to divorce after five years of marriage surfaced a few weeks before the pair revealed they were expecting their first child.

The famous couple revealed to their fans on May 9 that they had renewed their vows in a secret ceremony held in Hawaii and also shared the wonderful news of their pregnancy.

Hailey's uncle William "Billy" Baldwin was approached by The US Sun on Thursday, May 23, while attending a private screening of the upcoming documentary 'Americans With No Address' in New York City.

Billy, the brother of Hailey's father, Stephen, revealed that he was surprised to learn of Hailey and Justin's pregnancy because they had concealed it from some family members.

"I didn't know. I found out when you found out. She didn't text me," he acknowledged. "I just found out when my phone started blowing up. All my nieces and nephews are like, 'Did you see? Did you see?'"

Billy, 61, regarded Hailey and Justin's marriage as a "complicated situation," realizing the difficulties that celebrity and unrelenting public attention could bring in a marriage of this kind.

He told the outlet, "The only thing I ever said, not to Justin, but to Hailey, I said, 'Remember, you're in the business and your husband is one of the biggest pop stars in American history.’"

"And I said, 'And I'm in the business and I'm married to Chynna Phillips from Wilson Phillips'," Billy added.

Billy has been married to Chynna Phillips, 56, since 1995 despite her 2010 divorce filing, which she later withdrew after they reconciled. He has three children: daughter Jameson, 24, son Vance, 23, and daughter Brooke, 19.

He continued, "I don't know if you know anything about their history, but their first record, they sold 10 million copies and they had three singles go to number one on Billboard."

"So I was basically saying to [Hailey], 'If you ever want to sit down and talk about how to navigate and be successful and keep it real in a long-term, sort of showbiz relationship, let me know if you ever want to talk about that,’" Billy said.

Speaking to PEOPLE on Thursday, May 9, Billy expressed his joy at the prospect of being a proud uncle following his niece Hailey and her husband Justin's pregnancy news.

"I really feel like there's no higher calling than that responsibility. I think they're an adorable couple," Billy said.

He remarked of his large family, "Hailey comes from a great family with my brother Stephen and his wife Kennya and her older sister Alaia, who's married with her own grandchild."

The former cast member of 'Northern Rescue' also thought back to his first parenting experience, sharing with PEOPLE his "greatest regrets," which were "I was a little bit too new age, and I wasn't old school enough."

Hailey and Justin initially tied the knot in a covert courtroom ceremony in 2018 and later exchanged vows in front of 154 guests in South Carolina on September 30, 2019.
