LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Halle Berry opened up about the box-office failure of ‘Catwoman’ while reflecting on the impact of the movie's failure and bad reviews on her career.

Two decades have passed since the $100 million-budget film was released. 'Catwoman' had a disappointing box office run as it reportedly made only $82 million. Berry is still not over the criticism she faced for the film.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Berry said, “I didn’t love [the backlash]. Being a Black woman, I’m used to carrying negativity on my back, fighting, being a fish swimming upstream by myself.”

Halle Berry claims backlash didn't 'derail' her

Halle Berry further shared, “I’m used to defying stereotypes and making a way out of no way. I didn’t want to be casual about it. It didn’t derail me because I’ve fought as a Black woman my whole life."

“A little bad publicity about a movie? I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t going to stop my world or derail me from doing what I love to do.”

“There’s an innate resilience. I hated that it got all put on me, and I hate that, to this day, it’s my failure. I know I can carry it. I still have a career 20 years later. It’s just part of my story,” she stated.

The 57-year-old star also asserted, “That’s okay, and I’ve carried other failures and successes. People have opinions, and sometimes they’re louder than others. You just have to keep moving.”

'Catwoman' director Jean-Christophe 'Pitof' Comar supports Halle Berry

Director Jean-Christophe 'Pitof' Comar was also present during the interview and backed ‘Catwoman’ and Halle Berry, stating, “'Catwoman' was ahead of its time. She was the first Black female superhero [of the era], so people weren’t ready for that kind of movie.”

“Now, after some key movements, we have more diversity and inclusiveness. Younger audiences see things differently and are much more open,” he shared.

Comar added, “Back then, comic book fans hated the movie because the film didn’t involve Batman; with a new generation, it’s not a problem. They take it as it is.”
