Harris reminded of 'Medicare for All' stance as she accuses Trump of threatening health care of Americans

MADISON, WISCONSIN: Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, who once campaigned on abolishing private health plans in 2019, changed her stance and said on Friday, September 20, that it is former President Donald Trump who would 'threaten' Americans' health insurance, during a rally in Wisconsin.

Harris has campaigned on 'expanding and strengthening the Affordable Care Act', switching away from her previous support for a 'Medicare for All' single-payer healthcare system since becoming the presidential nominee, per The New York Post.  

Harris claims Trump would ‘threaten’ health insurance

Harris told the crowd during the rally, "(Trump) intends to end the Affordable Care Act. He’s basically saying he would threaten the health insurance of 45 million people in our country based on a concept."

She referred to Trump's September 10 debate claim that he has the 'concepts of a plan' that would replace the ACA, also known as Obamacare, but isn’t ready to present it.



 

During her 2019 White House run, Harris was asked how her policy stance on healthcare would affect people who are satisfied with their private health insurance plans and she said, "The idea is that everyone gets access to medical care, and you don’t have to go through the process of going through an insurance company. Let’s eliminate all of that. Let’s move on"

Notably, around 164.7 million people in the US held employer-sponsored health insurance in 2023, per the Kaiser Family Foundation. It is a plan that would have been abolished under Harris' 2019 'Medicare for all' vision. 



 

Notably, The Harris camp gathered more than 10,000 supporters into the Alliant Energy Center, outside downtown Madison, for the Friday rally, per the news outlet.

Moreover, around half a dozen anti-Israel protesters tried to shout down Harris during her remarks but she powered through their chants and did not stop to address the ruckus in the stands.

Harris trolled for switching stance on health plans

Several people on the internet took jibes at Kamala Harris over her changed stance on health plans and said that it is Donald Trump who would 'threaten' Americans' health insurance.

A user wrote on X, "That’s like the fox guarding the henhouse", while one added, "Obamacare raised the price of healthcare."



 



 

A person also stated, "She has a split personality!" whereas one mentioned, "No one believes her bulls***."

A person also added, "She is trying to say anything for a vote, but if elected she returns to her “core values”. I don’t think Americans are that dumb", whereas one mentioned, "But she wants to eliminate private health insurance so everybody can have Medicare for all. Which by the way would cost about $7 trillion a year."
