WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic congressman from North Carolina, Jeff Jackson, apologized grovelingly on TikTok on Saturday, March 16, for his vote that could result in the app's suspension in the US, as per the New York Post.

Jackson posted on his social media stating, "I screwed this up. I did. I apologize. And I will keep you posted. I have been completely roasted on this app over the last 48 hours. And I get it."

The video appears to have been removed and is absent from his other social media profiles.

He added, "If I were in your shoes, I would probably feel the same way. I would see someone who used this app to build a following and then appears to have voted against it. And I would be upset."

Significantly, with over 2.3 million followers on TikTok, Jackson stands out as one of the chamber's biggest stars, despite being relatively unknown in Congress. However, since his vote, he has lost more than 100,000 followers, and other users have openly expressed their disapproval of him on the app.

Moreover, Jackson stated that although he enjoyed using TikTok and connecting with his followers there, the information he was given in briefings regarding the program alarmed him and he described it as "genuinely alarming."

Additionally, Jackson conveyed his optimism regarding the measure's potential to prompt TikTok's acquisition by an American company, while also expressing doubt about the possibility of the worst-case scenario—a complete ban in the US—materializing.

He said, "I genuinely believe the chance of a ban is practically zero for a lot of reasons, financial, political, geopolitical, I just don’t think there’s any real chance of a ban. I still believe that but maybe I got that balance wrong."
