Internet mocks Mike Turner for claiming Russian propaganda is 'being uttered on House floor'
WASHINGTON, DC: GOP Rep Mike Turner said Russian propaganda has made its way to his House Republican colleagues which is "being uttered on the House floor," NBC News reported.
In an interview on CNN's 'State of the Union' on Sunday, April 7, host Jake Tapper pressed the congressman on recent remarks by GOP Rep Michael McCaul where he claimed Russian propaganda has 'infected a good chunk' of the Republican Party base.
Agreeing with McCaul's argument, Turner said, "It is absolutely true we see, directly coming from Russia, attempts to mask communications that are anti-Ukraine and pro-Russia messages, some of which we even hear being uttered on the House floor."
Mike Turner urges to help Ukraine
Turner, who has advocated for more aid to Ukraine, emphasized how the Russian propaganda was influencing the House GOP from passing additional assistance to the war-torn country.
"There are members of Congress today who still incorrectly say that this conflict between Russia and Ukraine is over NATO, which of course it is not," the House Intelligence Committee chair said.
"To the extent that this propaganda takes hold, it makes it more difficult for us to really see this as an authoritarian versus democracy battle," he said, adding," President Xi of China, Vladimir Putin himself have identified as such."
Further into the interview, Turner urged the US Congress to 'step up' and provide the help and assistance Ukraine needs at present.

Speaker Mike Johnson, whose future in the position remains in jeopardy following Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene's motion to oust him, has refused to bring the Senate passed $95.3 billion foreign aid bill that contains assistance for Israel and Ukraine for a vote on the House floor.
However, Turner held the view that Johnson was not at risk of being removed from speakership. "I don't think he's at any risk. I think that what people have been referring to as the 'chaos caucus,' those individuals who are seeking attention for themselves and trying to stop all of the important work in Congress, are now seen as merely disruptive," the Ohio Republican said.
Internet mocks Mike Turner
Turner faced online mockery for claiming the hold of Russian propaganda on House GOP as netizens questioned whether he became aware of it right now.
One user wrote, "Wow, he just figured that out."
"Well that took a long time for him to see," another person added. While a third user asked, "What was his first clue that Republicans were spreading Russian propaganda? Seeing MTG on Russian TV?"
