ATLANTA, GEORGIA: On Thursday, June 27, Donald Trump and Joe Biden faced off in their first presidential debate of the 2024 election.

During the debate, which is over now, the Republican leader spoke highly of his response to the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the US, like the rest of the world, in 2020, as reported by Mediaite.

Trump slams Joe Biden's Covid-19 response

Trump said, “We got hit with Covid. We did a lot to fix it.”

“I gave him an unbelievable situation with all of the therapeutics and all of the things that we came up with, we – we gave him something great,” Trump said while referring to Biden.

The 45th President further stated, “Remember, more people died under his administration, even though we had largely fixed it. More people died under his administration than our administration, and we were right in the middle of it."

“Something which a lot of people don’t like to talk about, but he had far more people dying in his administration. He did the mandate, which is a disaster, mandating it. The vaccine went out,” he added.

“He did a mandate on the vaccine, which is the thing that people most objected to about the vaccine. And he did a very poor job, just a very poor job,” Trump claimed.

Trump claims US has ‘become like a Third World nation’ under Biden administration

The 78-year-old former President Donald Trump also asserted that the United States had lost respect under the Biden administration, stating, "They no longer respect our leadership or the United States."

“We’re like a Third World nation between weaponization of his election, trying to go after his political opponent. All of the things he’s done. We’ve become like a Third World nation, and it’s a shame,” Trump added.

Earlier, Trump had praised himself for "Operation Warp Speed," an initiative aimed at accelerating the production and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines.

In early 2023, he mentioned, “I was able to get something approved that, you know, that has proven to have saved a lot of lives. Some people say that I saved 100 million lives worldwide, but I was able to get that done in nine months versus five years to twelve years if it ever got [done at all].”

Internet criticizes Trump's debate performance and pandemic response

Meanwhile, people have slammed Trump after the debate as a person below the Mediaite article wrote, “Trump's vilification of public health killed hundreds of thousands of Americans. He should never be in any position of leadership.”

“He means the snake-oil,” one more user said.

A person stated, “You mean the record of killing tens of millions of citizens.”

“Two reasons: the highest death rate from covid, ever, was in January 2021, while Trump was president. A lot of people died the next couple months, but were infected while Trump was president. Second: A lot of idiot antivaxxers died later because they listened to Trump instead of Biden,” another user added. [sic]
