'Her child, her choice': Internet backs Maren Morris after she defends bringing son Hayes to drag show
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Maren Morris feels no regret over taking her son, Hayes, to a "family-friendly" drag show in 2023.
During her appearance on 'The Kelly Clarkson Show', the artist recalled, "We were doing a benefit at Bridgestone last year when they were doing the drag ban in Tennessee."
"There were drag queens throughout, entertaining as well, and one actually danced with me when I was singing my song, 'The Middle'. And it was just amazing and fun," noted Morris, according to Fox News.
Maren Morris says the drag show was 'completely family-friendly'
Morris shared, "My son loves watching me, like sit in the makeup chair and just is like fascinated with the colors … it was just like completely harmless."
"But I think it's just such an amazing expression of artistry, and so I just think like normalizing it and making it seem like these are just people that love dressing up, too, is an amazing thing," added 'The Bones' singer, explaining her decision to take her son to the event.
She stressed, "It was an all-ages show so, it was completely family-friendly."
Morris made headlines after she told the crowd at the event, "I introduced my son to some drag queens today, so Tennessee, f*****g arrest me," as per Variety.
Talking to Clarkson, the singer admitted, "It crystallized when I became a mother . . . I want to be able to do music forever, but I want to do it on my terms. And if it costs me fans by standing up for people that truly need all of the megaphoning, I am okay with you, like, not being at the show."
Internet feels Maren Morris has every right to take her son wherever she wishes
A Facebook user wrote, "He’s her son. People need to mind their own business," and another noted, "It’s America people, she has the right to do what she wants with her life, family and career."
"Her child, her choice. She just lost me as a fan," declared a person.
Someone else shared, "How is her decision to take her child to a benefit with drag queens anyone else’s business? She has nothing to defend. I don’t agree with drag queens in schools as they would be exposing children to a lifestyle that some parents may be against it but this is different."
"What is it about drag that scares people so much? My guess is they are not comfortable with their own selves. Who cares? Honestly. And how 'damaging' is it? Not at all," expressed an individual.
