WASHINGTON, DC: Vivek Ramaswamy has stirred things up by endorsing controversial figure Kari Lake's bid for the US Senate in Arizona.

The former Republican presidential candidate threw his support behind Lake on Saturday, January 27, sparking reactions online.

Amid Lake's involvement in Arizona Republican infighting, Ramaswamy's endorsement could heighten tensions between the radical and moderate factions of the party.

His prominent support indicates a reaffirmation of nationalist-populist politics, adding to the uncertainty surrounding Ramaswamy's direction post his short-lived White House campaign.

"Proud to announce my endorsement of @KariLake for Senate," Ramaswamy wrote on X. "She's an outsider. She's America-First. She's all-in for sealing the border. She knows how to eviscerate the media. She's unafraid. And she's going to be a dominant US Senator."

Lake, who narrowly lost her bid to become Arizona governor in 2022, thanked Ramaswamy for the high-profile endorsement.

"Coming from you, this means the world," Lake responded. "Thanks for the powerful endorsement and your support. The MAGA Movement is stronger than EVER."

Ramaswamy's backing of the divisive Lake could signal an effort to strengthen ties with Trump-aligned Republicans as the venture capitalist and author charts an uncertain political future post-presidential run.

Kari Lake has been caught up in Arizona GOP controversy over leaked audio

The endorsement comes on the heels of controversy within the Arizona Republican Party involving Lake.

BBC reported on recently leaked audio where state GOP chair Jeff DeWit seems to be offering financial incentives to Lake in exchange for dropping out of the Senate race.

DeWit, who has since resigned, was recorded asking Lake if there's "any number" that would persuade her to temporarily step away from politics, citing pressure from "very powerful people" who want her to withdraw from the race. It is believed that Lake herself released the tape.

Although DeWit denied bribery accusations, the incident has brought attention to underlying concerns within the AZ GOP. There are worries that Lake's assertive, Trumpian style may pose a risk to the party's prospects of flipping the Senate seat currently held by independent Kyrsten Sinema.

Despite facing criticism from some party moderates, Lake has maintained a strong stance, securing an impressive $2.1 million fundraising haul in the last quarter.

She is banking on her unwavering partisanship to propel her to DC With Ramaswamy's endorsement, Lake seems increasingly defiant in the face of reported efforts by Republican officials to impede her path..
