'He's a prickly personality': Robert De Niro's pal asks him to tone down anger after losing civil trial
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Following a bitter civil trial in which a New York jury awarded his former personal assistant $1.2 million, close friends of 80-year-old Robert De Niro allegedly advised him to be more civil and tone down his attitude.
Before the jury found De Niro's company, Canal Productions, liable for gender discrimination and retaliation against the former employee, details of his explosive rage and abuse of her 41-year-old former assistant Graham Chase Robinson were made public in court.
It is said that those who knew the elderly actor well were not shocked by the jury's decision.
Robert De Niro's pal says he has 'awful temper'
A close pal told the National Enquirer, "Bob has always had an awful temper. The only thing that's surprising is that it remained a secret for so long!"
The source added, "He's notoriously hard on his staff and everyone else around him. He's a prickly personality with a hair trigger no one wants to pull."
Recent allegations regarding the 'Goodfellas' actor's cruel behavior, according to his close friend, "may have damaged De Niro's image beyond repair— and pals are urging him to change the way he treats other people before it's too late."
The 'Taxi Driver' actor has allegedly always been hostile and violent, according to a second source who echoed the close friend's accusations. "I've seen him unload on his ex-wives, his kids, waiters, and whoever else tries his patience," the source said
Robert De Niro damaged a veteran actor's career
Mickey Rourke, a Hollywood veteran, stated that De Niro damaged his career and prevented him from being cast in the big-budget 2019 film 'The Irishman' because of a long-standing animosity that allegedly stemmed from an altercation between the two men on the set of 'Angel Heart'.
"The casting person told my manager Robert De Niro said he refused to work with me in a movie," Rouke recalled.
De Niro doesn't seem to be prepared to alter his behavior just yet despite recent worries from those close to him. The actor intends to file an appeal against the civil trial verdict in New York, as reported by RadarOnline.
Robert De Niro's Canal Productions files lawsuit against Robinson
In 2019, De Niro's Canal Productions filed a lawsuit against Robinson. The business said she had "stolen" millions of Delta Airlines miles, spent thousands on Uber rides and dining out, and binge-watched 'Friends' while working. Robinson retaliated by accusing her former employer of abuse by filing a countersuit.
De Niro's rage was evident in court when he testified under oath that, in response to Robinson's failure to wake him up for an appointment, he called her a "f------ spoiled brat" and demanded that she scratch his back, adding that "it was never done with any disrespect."
