MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: New York City Mayor Eric Adams emphasized on Saturday, February 24, that 'the Crossroads of the World' is still safe, despite the migrant crisis driving a slew of recent crimes, including the stabbing of a 17-year-old.

When questioned about the Times Square crime wave at an unrelated event in Lower Manhattan, Adams touted, “We had 62 million tourists last year; we will continue to surge this year; NYPD is ever present.”

The Democratic Party-appointed mayor continued, “I was walking up there (in Times Square) the other day. You see the presence that’s there. It is safe.”

“We’re going to continue to be the safest big city in America, and we’re going to set the right tone,” the 63-year-old added. “And those who are violent, who have no place in the city, doesn’t matter if they’re long-standing New Yorkers, or they’re new arrivals. Violence is not accepted in the city.”

Mayor’s remarks fell flat amid surge in migrant crimes in city

A 17-year-old immigrant was stabbed during a ferocious altercation on West 42nd Street near Seventh Avenue in Times Square on Thursday night, February 22, two days before Mayor Adams' comments, according to a report from the New York Post.

The juvenile victim, a migrant from Nicaragua, was visiting Times Square for the first time with friends on Thursday evening when he was knifed by a group of masked attackers, according to sources and police reports.

The teenager was admitted to Bellevue Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. As of Friday, police had arrested five of the suspected assailants, some of whom were migrant teenagers themselves, and were seeking another 16 suspects.

The most recent violent outburst occurred on the same block where, only a month prior, a band of migrants viciously fought the police, frightening both tourists and New Yorkers, alike.

Two hours after the teenager was stabbed on Thursday, another brawl broke out a block away in front of the Hard Rock Café on 43rd and Broadway when two groups started to argue, according to the police.

A 28-year-old male, reportedly from New York, was punched and kicked by three individuals, all of whom were apprehended on the spot.

Notably, more than 178,000 migrants have arrived in New York City since the spring of 2022, with at least 65,000 now in the city's care.

Another user claimed: "Because Democrat politicians lie with ease."

One user wrote: "Adams knew it was bound to happen. Thousand without jobs, no money, and idle time…that's why he okayed the gift card with cash. A gesture too little too late.."

Another X user said: "yep, it's safe if you stay in your house"

Finally, this user tweeted: "We know he's lying"
