'Didn't take it seriously': Hillary Clinton slams Democrats' response to SC's overturning of Roe v Wade
WASHINGTON, DC: Hillary Clinton sharply criticized her fellow Democrats for their reaction to the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs Wade.
“We didn’t take it seriously, and we didn’t understand the threat,” the former first lady said in an interview with The New York Times.
Hillary Clinton says Democrats 'could have done more to fight'
Clinton explained, “Most Democrats, most Americans, did not realize we are in an existential struggle for the future of this country.”
“We could have done more to fight,” she said.
Issuing a stark warning on abortion rights, Clinton reflected on how Democrats spent decades in a state of denial of the vulnerable nature of abortion rights, which had been under the protection of Roe vs Wade for generations.
“One thing I give the right credit for is they never give up,” said the former presidential nominee.
“They are relentless. You know, they take a loss, they get back up, they regroup, they raise more money," she continued.
“It’s tremendously impressive the way that they operate. And we have nothing like it on our side,” Clinton added.
Hillary Clinton's criticism of conservative justices and Senate Democrats
Clinton criticized the conservative justice who played a pivotal role in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health ruling, which gave states the decision-making power on abortion access.
She also slammed Senate Democrats for failing to prevent the appointment of these justices as she said, “Our side was complacent and kind of taking it for granted and thinking it would never go away."
Hillary Clinton opens up on her 2016 presidential campaign
Reflecting on her 2016 presidential campaign where she lost to Donald Trump, Clinton said she tried to alert people about the dangers posed by anti-abortion efforts, but her warnings were dismissed as alarmist.
The focus groups and polling from that time showed that voters did not believe Roe vs Wade was at risk, according to The New York Times.

Hillary Clinton's call to action ahead of November election
As Trump is in the midst of his presidential race, Clinton warned that the upcoming November election is "existential" for the future of women's rights as she cautioned Trump's victory could allow small conservative groups to continue "turning the clock back on women."
As the Alabama Supreme Court's ruling in vitro fertilization became controversial, Clinton opined that Republicans aiming to restrict women's rights would next target birth control.
During the interview, she also spoke about facing sexism while she was on the campaign trail as she says women abandoned her because she was “not perfect.”
