Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager reveal what it’s like to cry in front of their children on ‘Today’ show

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The beloved hosts of ‘Today’, Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, recently opened up about their experiences with crying in front of their children.

During a recent ‘Today with Hoda & Jenna’ segment, the ladies opened up about the times that they’ve cried in front of their children this holiday season. Kotb also revealed that she cried while reading her children a letter from a family in need.

Kotb had two daughters, Hope and Haley, whereas Hager shares three children, Mila, Poppy, and Hal with her husband Henry.

Kotb called crying in front of her children an “interesting” experience as she shared that her tears were prompted by the heartfelt Christmas wishes she found while she and her family were "looking for a family to adopt," a program organized by the postal service.

Meanwhile, Jenna Bush Hager revealed that she teared up while watching a funny family movie.

Hager disclosed that the movie that moved her was ‘The Family Switch’, a comedy starring Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms about parents switching bodies with their children.

Despite its humorous premise, the movie conveyed a touching message of being “a long family.”

Hager recounted how her daughter Mila urged her to stop crying, saying, "But it was really loving and Mila was like, ‘Please stop crying. Mom, stop crying. It's enough,’ and I was like, ‘But this is so sweet.’”

Kotb shared her own experience with daughters, "I think crying in front of your kids is an interesting kind of thing because it happened to me the other day.”

She went on to describe an incident where they visited the Post Office to select letters to Santa that they wished to fulfill for a family.

Kotb added, “Reading some of these lists that kids wanted — I mean, it was like 'Can I please have a pair of white pants' or a size like 6T shirt, things that kids grow out of."

She added, "It was so jarring to me and all of a sudden, I was reading the letters to the kids, and I started crying and they go, 'Why are you crying?' I said, because look what this child is asking for: Shoes that fit. Shoes that fit. That's what she wants. A warm coat."

Hope and Haley responded with blank stares, she recounted. 

"They were like looking at me because they didn't quite get it, like, 'Why are you crying?'" she explained. "I said because they don't have anything and we have extra, so let's do something."

Kotb acknowledged that it's a “weird feeling” to shed tears in front of her children.

Hager chimed in affirming that sentiment, recalling her own experience when Mila urged her to halt the tears. Known for her tendency to shed tears at work, it seems Hager is equally emotional at home.

She said, “The amount that I do it ... Mila was sitting on my lap so I'm sure she felt the tears.”

“She just was like, 'Enough, mom. This is sweet but this is not a tearjerker. You need some help.'"

Internet slams Jenna Bush Hager over Mila’s ‘bratty’ behavior

After Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager shared their experiences of crying in front of their children, many people on the internet slammed Hager’s daughter Mila.

As a clip of the segment was also shared on the official Instagram page for ‘Today with Hoda & Jenna’, one person commented, “Mila is a brat!! She calls you Jenna, and you said she calls you worse names. Wow! Punishment must not be in your home,” and another added, “Jenna's shared other things about Mila... she sounds like a brat/snob.”

One more Instagram user slammed Mila adding, “The comments I hear about Mila make her appear as though she is missing some life skills. First, it is ok to cry and for many reasons. Second, I am glad she knows her mom’s name is Jenna. However, the way it is used show’s disrespect.”

A person simply called out the hosts saying, “They’re both so phony!”

One user said, “L BRAT KID JENNA,” and another called out Kotb and Hager, “Privileged people raise privileged kids. I can’t even relate to these two."
