LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A California federal judge rejected eight motions brought forward by President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden to dismiss the federal tax charges against him, as per the New York Post.

US District Judge Mark Scarsi denied the first son's bid on Monday, April 1, after he could not find any of the arguments convincing.

Notably, in 2023, Hunter was hit with three felonies and six misdemeanors for allegedly evading $1.4 million from 2016 to 2019, all of which he has pleaded not guilty to.

In the 82-page ruling, Judge Scarsi noted, "Defendant fails to present a reasonable inference, let alone clear evidence, of discriminatory effect and discriminatory purpose. Accordingly, the selective prosecution claim fails."

He added, "Defendant offers only conjecture about animus motivating the prosecutorial decisions in this case. The circumstantial allegations of animus he offers are thin."

Judge Mark Scarsi dismisses claims of Republican influence on prosecutors

Hunter's attorney, Abbe Lowell, filed eight motions on behalf of him in February.

He alleged that the prosecution of the first son was "selective and vindictive," requesting the court to throw out the charges, calling it an "outrageous government conduct" by IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, who influenced the Republicans in Congress.

However, Judge Scarsi dismissed the allegations, stating the defense delivered "no facts indicating that the Government undertook charging decisions in any respect because of public statements by politicians, let alone based on Defendant's familial and political affiliations."

He also cited public remarks from GOP House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, both Republicans, highlighting that "Politicians take credit for many things over which they have no power and have made no impact."

"Public statements by politicians hardly serve as evidence disturbing the 'presumption of regularity' that attaches to prosecutorial decisions," said Judge Scarsi, noting that someone merely claiming influence over a prosecutorial decision doesn't mean they actually did so.

As per the judge, the defense failed to offer "no convincing reason" to prove allegations of special counsel David Weiss's unlawful appointment by Attorney General Merrick Garland. He also denied to dismiss certain charges against Hunter, which the defense claimed as "untimely" and "lack of specificity."

The trial against the first son will start in June, and if convicted, he could face up to 17 years in prison. Besides the tax evasion charges, Hunter is facing charges for allegedly purchasing a handgun while still battling his cocaine addiction.
