Gabriel Hostin cited after being spotted on railroad tracks
According to court records, Gabriel Hostin was stopped shortly before 8 pm on June 16 near 24 Station Plaza after authorities allegedly saw him on the right-of-way of active railroad tracks.
Records state that he was in violation of posted no-trespassing signs in the area.
Sources claimed that officers initially approached Gabriel over the trespassing issue and questioned him about why he was on the tracks.
The Harvard University graduate was ultimately cited for a trespassing violation and is scheduled to appear in New Rochelle court on July 31.
Sources also noted that the area along the tracks often raises safety concerns for MTA police, although there was reportedly no indication that Gabriel was attempting to harm himself.
Sunny Hostin reportedly questions officers during phone call
According to sources familiar with the incident, the situation escalated after Sunny Hostin became involved.
"They were just talking to the kid because he was trespassing, but his mother made it an issue," a source said.
"She wanted to know why he was stopped and why did they talk to him."
The sources further alleged that officers later spoke with Hostin by phone, during which she identified herself as a well-known television personality.
"She said I am Sunny Hostin, I am on 'The View,'" the source claimed.
Hostin, who previously worked as a federal prosecutor and is listed as her son's attorney, declined to comment when contacted about the matter.
Sunny Hostin explains son's actions after trespassing citation
While Hostin did not publicly address the controversy, a letter she reportedly sent to Westchester Assistant District Attorney Amanda Greene offered insight into her son's version of events.
In the letter obtained by TMZ, Hostin argued that Gabriel did not intentionally ignore warning signs.
"When jogging, he observed what appeared to be a gravel incline that could be used for hill training," she wrote.
Hostin also claimed that the property's entrance may have contributed to the misunderstanding.
"Although there was a gate at the entrance of the gravel incline, the gates were standing open," she wrote.
"The only 'No Trespassing' sign was affixed to the left gate and, because the gates were open, it was not visible to my client as he entered the property."
