'I think it’s been shelved now': Julie Andrews not bothered if there can't be 'Princess Diaries' trilogy
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Julie Andrews would have been thrilled to join another 'Princess Diaries' film, but she doesn't let it bother her!
The ‘Mary Poppins’ star shared her thoughts on her successful franchise with Today.com, expressing that she believes it was ultimately "for the best."
"It’s quite a long time now since the two Diaries were done, and I’m not sure, but sometimes it’s best to leave a good thing alone,” said Julie.
She added, “I don’t like it when people milk and milk and milk the subject, you know, 'til it’s dead.'"
Anne and Julie are both interested!
In the initial release in 2001, she starred alongside Anne Hathaway, portraying her granddaughter Mia Thermopolis. The plot revolves around Anne's journey after discovering that she is the heir to Genovia's throne.
In 2019, the star of 'The Devil Wears Prada' expressed the sentiment, "I want to do it. Julie (Andrews) wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen."
However, Andrews disappointed fans during the same interview, stating, "And I think I may be wrong, but I think it’s been shelved now. I can't be sure."
Earlier reports indicated that the third film is in development at Disney.
The script for the new film is being written by Aadrita Mukerji, known for her work on 'Supergirl' and 'Reacher.' It will serve as a continuation of the series starring Anne Hathaway, rather than being a reboot.

Andrews is realistic about 'Princess Diaries 3'
Debra Martin Chase, who produced the previous two 'Princess Diaries' films, is also returning to produce the third installment, titled 'Princess Diaries 3.'
However, Hathaway, who portrayed Mia Thermopolis in the series, does not currently have a contract for the third film. Nonetheless, fans remain hopeful that she will return once the script is completed.
Last year, Hathaway expressed optimism, stating, "We feel the exact same, and I know it's probably very frustrating," in an interview with People. "It's a process that requires patience, and so everybody should consider themselves a part of the movie business now because this is how long it actually takes to make things."
Andrews, however, appeared pragmatic during her conversation with Today, stating, "I’d be very happy if we did do another one. But I don’t expect to."
