‘I’ll be back’: BTS’ Jin hints at returning to music, says 'you’ll be able to see me with short hair'
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: BTS fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Jin, the oldest member of the K-Pop group, who is completing his mandatory military service in South Korea.
The K-Pop star shared a new video to celebrate the New Year and hinted at his comeback to the music industry.
Jin promises to show his ‘pretty, handsome face’ soon
In the video, Jin said in Korean, “It’s January, everyone. The new year has come."
He continued, as Billboard reported, "I will become a year older in January. I’ll be in my mid-30s by now. Did you all make a snowman? I’m still in the past so I don’t know if it’s snowing or not but if it snowed you have to make a snowman and go back to being kids and do snowball fights.”
He added, “I’m leaving this video so you can watch my pretty, handsome face and spend January and February warmly."
"I miss you all. I miss you a lot. Wait just a bit more and you’ll be able to see me with short hair. I’ll grow my hair quickly this year and I’ll be able to start working hard soon," he continued.
Jin asked fans to “wait a few more months” since there’s only a short time left until his enlistment service ends. He teased: "I’ll be back in February and March, until then, bye!”
Jin was the first BTS member to enlist in the military
Jin was the first member of BTS— comprising Jung Kook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM, and J-Hope — to enlist in the military.
He began his service in December 2022, following the group’s hiatus announcement. According to Korean law, all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 must serve in the military for about two years. J-Hope and Suga followed Jin and enlisted in early 2023 while V started his mandatory service in December. Before his departure, V shared a message with his fans saying he’ll “miss [them] so much” while he’s away.
RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook are expected to enlist soon
RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook are the only BTS members who have yet to begin their mandatory military service obligations, though they’re expected to start soon.
“Thank you to the fans who always love BTS. We would like to provide follow-up information regarding the military enlistment of RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook,” BigHit Music shared in a statement via Weverse last month, as reported by Rolling Stone.
“RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook are enlisting as active-duty soldiers in the Army to fulfill their military service obligations," BigHit Music added.
BTS announced they would go on hiatus in 2022 so all seven members could complete their military service requirements. The group is expected to reconvene in 2025.
