NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Pop star Jennifer Lopez appeared alongside co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Sarah Griffin to discuss her latest project, 'This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,' on the February 15 episode of 'The View.'

At one point, Lopez went on a rant about the difficulties that came her way while making the Amazon original album, and a part of it had to be bleeped out as she got too excited.

Hitting back at industry skeptics

Co-host Navarro asked Lopez whether she doubted herself while working on the project, saying, "Skeptics in the industry thought you were crazy for putting such a spotlight on your love life in this album ... and a lot of people told you not to do it. So you decided to pay for it yourself..."

As the audience broke into applause, the co-host acknowledged, "That is called power and freedom," before continuing, "Did you ever have any doubts about putting your own money there? Did you and Ben (Affleck) have doubts about putting your love life out this way?"

"I think it was hard for people to understand what I was trying to do with (the album)," responded the singer. "I didn't want to do videos or collection of videos, that wasn't the goal. It's not quite a long-form movie, it's somewhere in between."

"It's kind of like this meta-musical kind of thing that is a new thing, and I wanted to do a new thing. I think a lot of people couldn't understand it and so nobody wanted to finance it and nobody wanted to put it on their services," she explained.

"And I was like, trust me this is something new and exciting, and at the end of the day, I was like *bleep* I'm just gonna make it," she said, making everyone cheer.

"I'll show them!" she exclaimed, all charged up. "I'll show them! I'll show them," she repeated.

"And then when I showed them, they were like, oh, we love that."

The difficult journey

Talking about the inspiration behind her album, JLo shared that it was getting back with Ben Affleck after 20 years that sent her back to the studio to write music.

"When I was done, I was like ... the music is beautiful, it was an amazing celebration of these two moments, but it didn't tell the whole story."

"And I just felt like people think, 'Oh this is a fairy tale...' but it is not, and it's more about ... the kind of journey, like how did I get from here to there. And you know what? It wasn't easy, it was very difficult at times," she shared.

Describing the album, she added that it was "heartbreaking and funny, and full of singing and dancing, which is, my life is a lot like that. And I think it's gonna surprise a lot of people in a way."
