Nelson Thomas announces he's opting for foot amputation a year after near-fatal collision in Texas
AUSTIN, TEXAS: Nelson Thomas has made a courageous decision a year after the harrowing car accident that left him badly injured.
'The Challenge' star, who underwent multiple surgeries following the near-fatal collision in Texas, announced on Sunday, February 11, that he has opted for amputation.

Nelson Thomas is set to 'redefine the significance' of the date of his crash through amputation
The March 2023 incident, which saw Thomas rescued from his flaming car in Austin, by Minnesota Vikings player KJ Osborn and three other bystanders has led him to months of hospitalization, according to People.
The MTV star took to Instagram to reveal that his amputation surgery had been scheduled for March 5, 2024, exactly a year to the date of his crash.
"March 5, 2023, remains vivid in my memory, a persistent presence in my thoughts," he wrote on Instagram.
"I consciously embrace it as the initiation of a new chapter. Opting for amputation, I am determined to own March 5 and redefine its significance in my life," he added.
"Get ready, amputation world! I'm on my way! I am scheduled for surgery on March 5, 2024," he continued.

His announcement post included images of his accident and injuries along with an audio conversation with his doctor who explained to Thomas about the surgery.
Nelson Thomas says multiple procedures since the crash 'didn't work out'
The reality TV personality who has been candid about his difficult recovery journey shared that multiple procedures since the crash "didn't work out."
"I have to ask myself what kind of life I want to live and the quality of life I want to live," Thomas said.
"I think I'm at peace with it and it's time," he said of his decision after a lot of research.
Thomas who is set to "embrace the challenges" recently posted a video of himself working out in the gym.
"Let's embrace the challenges, face the storm head-on, and conquer adversity. I won't run away." he wrote in the caption.
"I'll run towards my challenges, leaving a lasting impact that people won't forget...." he added.

Thomas previously revealed that doctors told him his ankle was not healing and it had refractured, hinting at a potential amputation.
"Come to find out, where they have the screws and plates, the bone broke. It did not re-heal," he said in September 2023.
"The doctor has laid my options out there. The stage that I’m in right now is called a salvage stage, which [means] either they can salvage my ankle, or they can amputate it."
"This is not going to break me, but goddamn, I’m so over hearing bad news. I just wanted some good news today," he added.
