Internet amused as Johnny Depp pays emotional tribute at Shane MacGowan's funeral in 'fake Irish accent'

TIPPERARY, IRELAND: Johnny Depp left many amused as he delivered the Prayer of the Faithful while attending Shane MacGowan's funeral.

The 60-year-old read the prayer allegedly in an Irish accent, Daily Mail reported.

Depp was reportedly one among many famous faces who attended the funeral of the Pogues frontman.

‘Did I imagine Johnny Depp's Irish accent’

Many hailed the actor for paying an emotional tribute to his pal but some commented on the way he spoke.

A user tweeted, “Did Johnny Depp just put on a fake Irish accent at the Shane Macgowan funeral?”

Another one asked, “Why is Johnny Depp speaking with an Irish accent when he’s from Kentucky?”

The third user said, “Did Johnny Depp try a little Irish accent?!”

 

The fourth one shared, “Did I imagine Johnny Depp's Irish accent or was that really a thing?”

“Is Johnny Depp trying on an Irish accent??” the fifth one added.

‘Shane will always be the light’

MacGowan died on November 30 and as per a statement issued at the time, “Shane died peacefully at 3 am this morning (30 November 2023) with his wife Victoria and family by his side."

Later, it was revealed that the singer was 65 and died from pneumonia. 

His wife Victoria Mary Clarke said, as per The Independent, “Shane will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love of my life.”

‘Long live his poetry and music’

Meanwhile, many fans paid their tribute to MacGowan following his death.

Speaking of the lead vocalist of the Pogues, the President of Sinn Fein, Mary Lou McDonald, reportedly said, “Shane was a poet, a dreamer, and a champion of social justice. He was a dedicated Republican and a proud Irishman.”

A fan wrote on X, “Rest in peace, Shane. True Legend & my hero. ☘️🏴‍☠️❤️”.

 

Another one tweeted, “Long live his poetry and music. Long live for an eternal Irish bard.”

“Godspeed Shane. Thank you for all you gave us. Thinking of you Victoria and all who loved Shane 💚🤍🧡,” the third one shared.

The fourth fan said, “I wish Shane's soul peace, but not too much.. since Shane's strength, power, and beauty has always been in his restlessness and rabelrousing. Shane was a poet laureate for the rebels, iconoclasts, and the restless. Thank you, Shane. The world has lost so much.”
