Internet asks Joe Biden to 'hurry up' as source suggests President's family is discussing his exit plan
WASHINGTON, DC: Reports have surfaced that President Joe Biden's family members have discussed the possibility of him exiting the presidential race.
This comes amid growing concerns from Democratic lawmakers about his age and fitness for office besides many calls to drop out of the race.
Health, family, and stability of the country are at the forefront of Joe Biden's family discussions
Biden's closest allies reportedly believe he may soon make a decision to step aside.
Sources familiar with the discussions have indicated that any exit plan would aim to position the party favorably to defeat Donald Trump.
Biden’s family has considered how he would prefer to end his re-election bid on his own terms with a carefully calculated plan, according to NBC News.
"Considerations about the impact of the campaign on his health, his family, and the stability of the country are among those at the forefront of the discussions,” said people familiar with the discussions, according to the network.
Joe Biden's family plans his dignified exit honouring his five decades of service
The sources also mentioned that family members believe an exit plan should honor Biden’s more than five decades of public service.
Biden and his closest allies are reportedly experiencing stages of anger and grief over perceived betrayals by individuals they considered friends.
"There was a much more dignified way to do this if this is what they wanted,” said a Biden ally.
“This is no way to treat a public servant who has done a lot for this country," the ally added.
Some allies expect that if Biden decides to exit, it could happen in the coming days.
However, they also caution that the final decision is up to him, noting that he is not inclined to quit, even in the face of significant adversity.
“We don’t even know what we’re doing tomorrow,” said a person close to the Bidens regarding the possibility of an imminent announcement.
White House denies Joe Biden's exit plan discussions with family
White House spokesman Andrew Bates has denied any such discussions among the Biden family.
“That is not happening, period,” he said, adding “The individuals making those claims are not speaking for his family or his team — and they will be proven wrong. Keep the faith.”
Yet, report suggests Biden is now paying heed to the calls of dropping out of the race.
Ron Klain, Biden’s former White House chief of staff and an adviser to him for decades, said in an interview that Biden is hearing the public and private calls for him to exit the race.
"I think he’s feeling the pressure,” said Klain who has spoken to Biden recently. “I want him to stay in,” he said.
Another individual close to Biden’s re-election effort believes it is “inevitable” that he will drop out of the race, reported the network.
Internet reacts to Joe Biden's exit plan discussions
Nonetheless, the internet remains skeptical, with many users pointing out Biden’s repeated assertions that he is staying in the race.
Some are expressing disbelief in the reports and others are urging Biden to pass the torch.
“For the 515,334th time he said he's staying in, try listening to him instead of unnamed sources,” suggested one user. “No they’re not. This is a lie,” wrote another user.
Others voiced support for Biden’s decision to continue his campaign. “Joe Biden is many things but the one thing he is not is a quitter. He will run. It is his final mission. He will win,” stated one user.
“Yes, and they should hurry up and pass the torch. Now,” commented another.
