'No surprise': Internet upset as Joe Biden emerges victorious in the Democratic presidential caucuses held in Guam

WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden has emerged victorious in the Democratic presidential caucuses held in Guam, based on party results from the US territory in the western Pacific Ocean, reports Associated Press.

The 2024 presidential nominating season comes to an end on Saturday, June 8, with the Democratic caucuses in Guam and the US Virgin Islands, following five months and over 100 primaries and caucuses, as per Fox News.

Democratic Party of Guam chairman Tony Babauta issued a statement 

"The Party is excited to be sending a delegation to the DNC Convention in full support of President Biden and Vice President Harris," said the chairman of Democratic Party of Guam Tony Babauta in a statement on Saturday, June 8. "Our island and country needs leadership that continues to invest in people, improves our infrastructure, focuses on sustainability and our environment, and protects women's rights," he added.

Both Joe Biden and Donald Trump aim to secure their bastions heading into general election

About three months ago, following their decisive wins in the coast-to-coast Super Tuesday contests, Biden and former President Trump secured the Republican and Democratic nominations respectively.

Although there hasn't been much drama in the presidential nominating races lately, the outcomes of some of the recent primaries and caucuses have hinted at possible issues for Biden and Trump as they try to hold onto their support base ahead of the general election.

Nikki Haley was Donald Trump's final rival for the nomination

Former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador Nikki Haley, who was Trump's last opponent for the nomination, halted her campaign early in March but despite being essentially a zombie candidate, she managed to garner up to 20 percent of the vote in certain Republican presidential primaries.

Additionally, as a protest against Biden's backing of Israel in its conflict with Hamas in Gaza, the president was frequently confronted with a protest vote via the "uncommitted" option on the ballot in the Democratic contests.

Internet says 'Guam is dependent on government handouts'

Netizens also reacted after President Biden won the Democratic presidential caucuses in Guam. "Guam is dependent on government handouts, so no surprise," tweeted one X user while another wrote, "It is totally beyond comprehension how any voter could approve of the way Biden is destroying our country." 

One user mocked Biden by saying, "Wasn’t his uncle eaten by cannibals in that region??" Another echoed the same, "Isn't that where his uncle Giddy was eaten by cannibals?"
