During a recent episode of ABC’s 'The View', Hostin expressed skepticism about Haley’s emotional display in South Carolina on Tuesday, February 20. "I didn't feel that it was authentic and I didn't trust it," Hostin remarked. "I guess I have a dark heart."
She theorized that Haley’s tears were a political ploy to boost her popularity, just as approval ratings rose when she previously defended her husband from attack. "So I read into this moment, 'If I now throw in a little tear, my approval ratings will go up again,'" Hostin said.
Kelly wasted no time responding on her Thursday, February 22, podcast. After playing Hostin’s clip, she quipped, "I like that she owns her dark heart."

What I did learn was how to lean in to being on television, because, I will tell you, she was fine and it was great and we would talk, and that red light came on and she became a completely different person, a very telegenic person, very aggressive, assertive, and it caught me off guard," Hostin recounted.
She admitted being unprepared for Kelly’s camera-ready TV persona. "I only need to experience that once," Hostin said about holding her own during the segment.
