WASHINGTON, DC: In a surprising move that stirred controversy online, Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett of Texas turned a heated verbal exchange with Republican firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene into a personal merchandising opportunity, as reported by New York Post.

Crockett's decision to launch the Crockett Clapback Collection featuring apparel printed with an insult she leveled at Greene during a tense congressional hearing, drew widespread backlash from critics.

The feud between Crockett and Greene escalated during a tense House Oversight Committee hearing on Thursday, May 16, concerning a potential contempt resolution against Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Tensions flared when Greene took a jab at Crockett's appearance, stating, "I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you're reading."

The remark elicited gasps from fellow lawmakers, with Jamie Raskin, the committee's top Democrat, immediately condemning Greene's comments as "absolutely unacceptable". Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a member of the progressive 'Squad,' also demanded that Greene's insult be stricken from the record.

Not one to back down, Crockett retaliated with a scathing remark about Greene's "bleach blonde, bad-built, butch body," prompting her own words to be stricken as well.

In the aftermath of the heated exchange, Crockett took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, May 18, announcing her plans to launch the Crockett Clapback Collection. The line, she claimed, would feature "various swag that includes random things I've said", with the proceeds going toward ensuring a Democratic majority in the House.

Accompanying the post was an image of a man wearing a black t-shirt printed with the phrase "bleach blonde bad built butch body" – a direct reference to Crockett's insult aimed at Greene.

Crockett's retort was also transformed into a diss track, shared online by Congressman Jared Moskowitz. In the video, Crockett is seen referencing the phrase while questioning Greene’s critique. This moment was set to a beat, turning the sharp exchange into a rhythmic rebuke.

Jasmine Crockett draws flak for selling merchandise related to viral feud

Crockett's decision to capitalize on the heated exchange with Greene by selling merchandise drew widespread criticism online.

One X user commented, "Dems will never miss a chance to make something corny lol."

Another expressed disappointment, saying, "This sucks so bad. Quit telling us you’re the last line of defense against authoritarianism and then doing this s**t like you’ve made any difference. It’s revolting, meaningless theater."

Others were more critical. A user wrote, "What an embarrassment. For Texas. For the whole country. 'Leaders' like you prove we have none. We are screwed."

Another echoed similar sentiments, stating, "This is why nobody will ever take you seriously. The left may applaud you, but inside, nobody considers you a serious lawmaker."

"This is the type of people Democrats put up. Zero class," criticized a fifth user.

Another user directed a personal attack, stating, "You are a disgusting person! People are making fun of you. Open up your real eyes lady."

One commenter questioned Crockett's suitability for office, stating, "You do not belong in Congress and you give Black Americans everywhere a bad name."

Finally, an eighth user criticized Crockett's approach to governance, stating, "This unserious congresswoman is profiting off of not being a serious legislator. We need to stop voting in these absolute jokes. All they care about are childish viral moments. They don’t care about you, your family, or your business."
