Sunny Hostin bashed after she expresses concern Trump supporters could ‘sneak’ into hush money trial jury
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Sunny Hostin, co-host of 'The View' and former federal prosecutor, voiced her concern on the April 16, Tuesday episode, about the potential infiltration of Donald Trump supporters into the jury selection process of his ongoing trial in Manhattan.
Trump appeared for the second day of his hush money trial on April 16, as jury selection continued.
Hostin voices concern over potential bias in hush money trial jury selection
Trump faces 30 counts related to a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to conceal an alleged affair. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has charged Trump with falsifying records to conceal the payment, a claim that the former president denies.
Meanwhile, Sara Haines, another co-host of 'The View', expressed her fatigue with the extensive coverage of the trial, stating that she was feeling "Trumped out".
"I'm not Trumped out at all. This is a legal nerd's Super Bowl," Hostin declared, emphasizing her excitement over the ongoing trial.
She continued to describe the trial as her own personal Super Bowl moment.
Regarding jury selection, Hostin argued that it would be challenging to find jurors who are completely unaware of the former president, whom she referred to as a "loser."
“Fifty people said, ‘I can’t even be impartial,’ which I admire them for their forthrightness and their honesty, because you have to be honest when you’re a juror,” she said.
“But I still believe that they will be able to find an impartial jury. They are never gonna find someone that doesn’t know about the former twice-impeached loser president.”
She expressed concern that a Trump supporter might deceive prosecutors to get onto the jury, potentially leading to a hung jury.
"You get one person that sneaks onto that jury with untoward feelings, that person can hang that jury," Hostin said.
"What I found interesting about my Super Bowl is that the legal teams will be checking the jurors' social media to assess the truthfulness and intentions revealed during voir dire, which is their questioning," she explained.
Hostin suggested that individuals who liked Trump's social media posts could not be trusted to remain impartial. However, she did not express similar concerns about individuals who were strongly opposed to Trump potentially infiltrating the jury.
Hostin also mentioned conservative commentator Clay Travis recently encouraging Trump supporters in New York to do whatever it takes to secure a spot on the jury for the hush money trial.
“I think that’s really really important because if you start liking Trump’s [posts] and you follow Trump’s stuff on social media, are you going to — can you be impartial?” she said, adding, “I don’t really think so.”
