When did Dick Van Dyke meet Arlene Silver?

Last year, in a candid interview with Closer Weekly, Van Dyke reminisced his first meeting with Silver who was working as a professional makeup artist.

The couple first met during the 2007 SAG Awards as Van Dyke was present there to give away the Lifetime Achievement Award to his 'Mary Poppins' co-star Julie Andrews.

During the interview with Closer Weekly, Silver recalled their first exchange as she was powdering his nose.

Silver recalled, "He said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ The first thing I asked him was, ‘Weren’t you in ‘Mary Poppins?’ We got along immediately as friends, so it didn’t feel like he was so much older than me," per Fox News.

Even Van Dyke was aware of their May-December romance as he admitted, "I thought there would be an outcry about a gold digger marrying an old man."

"But no one ever took that attitude," added Van Dyke.

After Silver helped Van Dyke recuperate from the death of his long-time love, actress Michelle Triola Marvin in 2009, the couple fell in love.

Van Dyke and Silver dated for a year before tying the knot on the leap day of 2012. The couple with a 46-year-old gap is still very much in love more than 11 years after their marriage.

Van Dyke also shared the secret to their happy married life saying, "We share an attitude," before adding, "She can go with the flow. She loves to sing and dance, which we do almost every day. She’s just delightful."

Silver too gushed about her husband, saying, "He is the most perfect human being," and added, "I’ve never met anyone so happy, so genuine, so amazing. He’s just like a happy pill."

Earlier Van Dyke was married to Margie Willett from 1948 to 1984. After that, he was in a relationship with Michelle Triola Marvin for three decades until her death in 2009.
