WASHINGTON, DC: Liz Cheney’s PAC released a new D-Day-themed advertisement on Thursday, June 6, subtly criticizing former President Donald Trump.

The advertisement, posted on the social platform X to commemorate the D-Day anniversary, includes clips of former Presidents Dwight D Eisenhower and George W Bush discussing the military action in Normandy.

Liz Cheney's consistent criticism of Donald Trump

In the advertisement, Cheney says, “America deserves a president as good and steadfast as our nation, a president of character, driven by a noble purpose, one who honors the sacrifices of our troops.”

“Not a man consumed by spite, revenge, and self-pity," she continues.

Cheney was one of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for his role in the January 6 attacks.

Donald Trump's past remarks about soldiers

Trump has also faced backlash over reports that he referred to dead soldiers as “losers” and “suckers” in 2018.

His former chief of staff John Kelly, too, confirmed the remarks. Kelly told CNN in October that Trump thinks those who serve in uniform and suffer in combat are “suckers” because “there is nothing in it for them.”

He added that Trump did not want to be seen with military amputees because “it doesn’t look good for me.”

“A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family — for all Gold Star families — on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France," he said, according to The Hill.

President Joe Biden visits Normandy and delivers a speech on the future of democracy

On Thursday, June 6, President Joe Biden visited Normandy and delivered a speech on the future of democracy.

On the other hand, Trump posted about D-Day on his Truth Social account.

“Today, we honor the immortal heroes who landed at Normandy 80 years ago,” Trump wrote.

“The men of D-Day will live forever in history as among the bravest, noblest, and greatest Americans ever to walk the earth. They shed their blood, and thousands gave their lives, in defense of American Freedom. They are in our hearts today and for all time," he added in the post.

Internet  reactions to the new D-Day advertisement slamming Donald Trump

The advertisement elicited a variety of reactions online. Some users criticized Cheney with one writing, "You put Biden in power, and got our kids jabbed. You stand for harming and murdering. You are no Constitutional Conservative."

Another mocked, "The idea that a convicted felon is running for President is a disgrace to America."

"Who calls our military men and women suckers and losers," one user weighed in.

Others praised Cheney with one YouTube commenter stating, “Self pity. Bullseye!” One expressed it was enough reason not to back Trump. "If for this alone..the only reason not to back him and no further discussions. God Bless us all and thank you," the user said.

One more user wrote, "@Liz_Cheney, this is a well-done video in rememberance of D-Day. Without indicating, it is also nicely done in support of President Biden. Thank you!"

Another expressed admiration writing, "Mad respect for Liz Cheney. She will go down in history as an honorable woman for the United States of America."
