WASHINGTON, DC: Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lashed out at ex-president Donald Trump's response to the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, reported The Hill.

The Democratic Congresswoman called Trump's remarks "beneath the dignity of a human being" in an interview on MSNBC's 'Inside with Jen Psaki' on Monday, February 19.

The GOP frontrunner compared Navalny's death to his ongoing legal perils amid the $355 million New York civil fraud verdict while refraining from condemning Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The sudden death of Alexei Navalny has made me more and more aware of what is happening in our Country. It is a slow, steady progression, with CROOKED, Radical Left Politicians, Prosecutors, and Judges leading us down a path to destruction. Open Borders, Rigged Elections, and Grossly Unfair Courtroom Decisions are DESTROYING AMERICA. WE ARE A NATION IN DECLINE, A FAILING NATION! MAGA2024," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Navalny, who had openly called out the corruption in Putin's Russia, died on February 16 after falling unconscious at the Arctic penal colony where he was jailed for thirty years under charges of extremism.

What did Nancy Pelosi say about Trump's response to Alexei Navalny's death?

"You wonder, what does Putin have on Donald Trump that he always has to be beholden to him, his buddy in vileness?" Pelosi questioned.

Adding the former President's statement was "beneath the dignity of a human being," she stated, "It is so horrible you think, 'No, somebody must have made this up. Not even Donald Trump could go this far.'"

Outraged over Trump's response, the California lawmaker asserted his statement "should disqualify him from running for anything, much less President of the United States."

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley also called out Trump for not condemning Putin for "being a murderous thug." Writing on X, the former South Carolina Governor stated that Trump denounced America by comparing it to Russia instead of praising Navalny's courage.

The billionaire ex-president, however, refused to follow the path of most of the world leaders who pointed fingers at the Russian President over his opponent's death. President Joe Biden explicitly asserted "Putin is responsible" for Navalny's death.

Internet's mixed reaction to Nancy Pelosi's remarks

Social media users divided into two camps discussing Pelosi's critique of Trump's stance on the Russian opposition leader's death. While some agreed with the congresswoman, another group opposed it, calling her response "pathetic nonsense."

One user wrote, "Agree. I seriously thought his post was fake. Cannot believe he blamed this on our country. Deplorable."

While another user asked, "What would Nancy Pelosi know about human dignity?"

"More pathetic nonsense from degenerate democrats," read one response. Whereas a fourth user remarked, "The #trump statement on #Navalny is an embarrassment to our country. trump has #NoBottom."

A fifth user opined, "Donald Trump can not get ANY LOWER! He is now at the very bottom of the garbage bin! That’s where he belongs…"

"She described herself. Oh the irony," added a user. While another remark read, "Highly agree with this, absolutely sickening to think it’s a possibility someone with this mindset could return to a position such as president… "
