MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: On a recent episode of 'The View', Sunny Hostin, along with her co-hosts, engaged in a discussion about Donald Trump's remarks at the Black Conservative Federation Gala held on February 26.

Hostin, aged 55, was restricted from restating a particular quote attributed to Trump during the conversation.

Sunny Hostin criticizes Trump's controversial remarks on Black individuals

In the clip shared on 'The View's X platform, Trump, aged 77, reportedly made remarks implying that Black individuals had positively received his mug shot, alongside inappropriate jokes concerning race.

Upon reviewing video clips of Trump's remarks, Sunny Hostin, described the former President as "hellish" during the discussion with her co-hosts.

She highlighted the stark reality that merely "1%" of Black voters supported Republican candidates in the 2022 elections.

Additionally, Hostin noted the scarcity of Black attendees at the event, specifically mentioning Sen Tim Scott, Ben Carson, and Rep Byron Donalds as the only four Black individuals present.

Continuing her critique, Hostin sarcastically dismissed the media's portrayal of Trump's message as "shocking," emphasizing, "So, his message is not resonating with Black voters in the way that media is trying to say."

She proceeded to reference Trump's history, including his involvement in a 1973 housing discrimination lawsuit and his association with White supremacists, saying, "he's dined with White supremacists".

Hostin also highlighted Trump's controversial statement following the clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017, where he remarked that there were "fine people on both sides".

While enumerating Trump's offensive conduct, Hostin hesitated before stating, "He called countries like Haiti..." pausing to seek approval from executive producer Brian Teta, asking, "Can I say it? Can I say the word, Brian?"

"No, I've tried before," co-host Ana Navarro interjected.

Executive producer Brian Teta shook his head and replied, "No." Hostin's audio was muted momentarily, and when restored, co-host Sarah Haines chimed in, saying, "I don't think we can say that either."

Whoppi Goldberg concludes condemning Trump's remarks

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg seemingly concluded the discussion by stating, "It's been said."

Hostin's remark was likely referencing Trump's infamous "s**thole countries" comment, where he used profanity to describe Haiti and African nations in 2018, as reported by the Associated Press and NBC News. Navarro has previously criticized Trump for his use of the derogatory term.

Hostin persisted, alleging, "He falsely accused the Central Park Five. He is, according to many people, a racist. And so a racist running on racism doesn't work."

In agreement, Goldberg remarked during the Hot Topic discussion, "Trump was running on racism and revenge."

'The View's statement sparks mixed reactions from viewers

'The View's statement on the matter elicited a range of reactions from viewers.

One commenter expressed disdain, writing, "The View are hideous and unbelievably dim. So filled with hate. Boomerang incoming."

"Cancel this pathetic show already," added another critic.

Another simply labeled it a "Clown show."

A different perspective was shared by another viewer: "Which is more offensive to Black people: saying Black people want to support me because lawfare is being used against me, or saying you ain’t Black if you don’t vote for me?"

Reflecting on Hostin's observation about the lack of Black attendees at the gala, one commenter noted, "As Sunny pointed out there were 4 black ppl gala!"

Taking a swipe at Trump, another commenter remarked, "He’s probably talking abt all the black ppl Biden had imprisoned in the 90’s and 2000’s."

Expressing disapproval of Trump's alleged racism, another commenter criticized, "What a Racist. Shame on blacks who supports trump."
