Additionally, Hostin noted the scarcity of Black attendees at the event, specifically mentioning Sen Tim Scott, Ben Carson, and Rep Byron Donalds as the only four Black individuals present.
Continuing her critique, Hostin sarcastically dismissed the media's portrayal of Trump's message as "shocking," emphasizing, "So, his message is not resonating with Black voters in the way that media is trying to say."
She proceeded to reference Trump's history, including his involvement in a 1973 housing discrimination lawsuit and his association with White supremacists, saying, "he's dined with White supremacists".
Hostin also highlighted Trump's controversial statement following the clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017, where he remarked that there were "fine people on both sides".
While enumerating Trump's offensive conduct, Hostin hesitated before stating, "He called countries like Haiti..." pausing to seek approval from executive producer Brian Teta, asking, "Can I say it? Can I say the word, Brian?"
"No, I've tried before," co-host Ana Navarro interjected.
Executive producer Brian Teta shook his head and replied, "No." Hostin's audio was muted momentarily, and when restored, co-host Sarah Haines chimed in, saying, "I don't think we can say that either."
Whoppi Goldberg concludes condemning Trump's remarks
Moderator Whoopi Goldberg seemingly concluded the discussion by stating, "It's been said."
Hostin's remark was likely referencing Trump's infamous "s**thole countries" comment, where he used profanity to describe Haiti and African nations in 2018, as reported by the Associated Press and NBC News. Navarro has previously criticized Trump for his use of the derogatory term.
Hostin persisted, alleging, "He falsely accused the Central Park Five. He is, according to many people, a racist. And so a racist running on racism doesn't work."
In agreement, Goldberg remarked during the Hot Topic discussion, "Trump was running on racism and revenge."
