CULVER CITY, CALIFORNIA: Internet was excited, as well as divided, as soon as Deadline officially announced that Jack Black, renowned for his role in 'Kung Fu Panda', is set to join the cast of the upcoming live-action 'Minecraft' movie, alongside Jason Momoa and Emma Myers.

Adding to the anticipation, Black's eagerly awaited film, 'Kung Fu Panda 4', is slated to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2024, and will release on March 8, 2024.

Jack Black joins 'Minecraft' movie alongside Jason Momoa

According to Deadline, Black is set to join the movie led by Momoa, and details about the movie's plot are currently under wraps, with writing credits yet to be finalized. Deadline also reports that Black will be portraying the character of Steve.

The cast of 'Minecraft' also includes Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen.

'Minecraft', which debuted in 2011, stands as one of the best-selling video games in history, boasting over 140 million monthly users. The sandbox-style game allows players to construct 3D worlds using colorful blocks.

Mojang Studios, the Swedish developer behind the game, was acquired by Microsoft in 2014 and will be involved as a producer for the movie adaptation.

The 'Minecraft' film is a collaborative effort involving Vertigo, co-financier Legendary, Mojang/Microsoft, and Jason Momoa’s On the Roam. Jared Hess has been tapped as the director.

Variety asserts that Black is becoming a sought-after actor for game-to-screen adaptations, having previously starred in 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie', 'Jumanji: The Next Level', and the upcoming 'Borderlands' from Lionsgate.
