LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Renee Rapp’s acceptance speech at GLAAD Media Awards turned controversial after the ‘Too Well’ singer appealed for a ceasefire in Gaza. The performer was chosen ‘Outstanding Music Artist’ at the ceremony held on Thursday night, March 14, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

“We’re in a room of very influential people, very privileged people, which is exciting and also a huge privilege to be a part of that,” Rapp addressed the gathered audience. Renee stood for the people of Gaza and added, “Having said that, I’d like to take the opportunity to show support and call for an immediate ceasefire and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”

Renee's appeal for a ceasefire was immediately met with applause, and she walked off by asking them to join her “to continue to advocate for yourselves, continue to advocate for your friends, your queer friends and for those who can’t advocate for themselves.”

The center was once again turned into a political stage after GLAAD CEO and President Sarah Kate Ellis appealed to viewers to vote in upcoming elections in the country, per THR.

“We have to keep telling our stories, raising our voices, pushing back on the rhetoric. Folks, this is not a fire drill. This is the actual fire,” she said, referring to expressing their support for queer and trans rights amid the death of a 16 years old non-binary teen.

The GLAAD Media Awards are held every year to honor media "for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of queer people and issues." It is now the most viewed annual LGBTQ ceremony and fundraiser in the world since it began in 1990.

Internet backs Renee Rapp amid her 'permanent ceasefire' appeal for Gaza

The internet reacted to yet another celebrity using the global stage to talk about the ongoing 'Israel-Palestine' conflict.

"She has more balls than the majority of Hollywood and her career is just now starting to take off— there is NO excuse for others to not do this, wrote one user on X.

Another user lauded Renee, "She should be an example for more celebrities."

"Many blessings to her and those with compassion in their hearts and know that violence do not resolve any problems," a fan wrote.

A fan shared his opinion by tweeting, "As it should be, hypocrisy doesn't go down well with very few people cus they got a working conscience."
