NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: New York City is set for a day of stark contrasts as former President Donald Trump plans to attend the wake of slain NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, while President Joe Biden hosts a lavish fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, March 28.

Officer Diller's tragic demise shook the city when he was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop in Queens on Monday, March 25. Horrifying footage of the incident captured the officer's screams of agony as he succumbed to his injuries. Diller, a three-year veteran of the force, leaves behind a grieving wife and a one-year-old son.

Trump and Biden's contrasting priorities?

In a confirmation to NBC News on Wednesday, an NYPD spokesperson announced Trump's intention to pay his respects at the Massapequa Funeral Home in New York, where Diller's wake will be held.

The former president has long been an advocate for law enforcement and has expressed strong support for NYPD officers.

"In my administration, we strongly believe that criminals who murder cops should get the death penalty," Trump notably declared during the 2019 Major County Sheriffs and Major Cities Chiefs Association Joint Conference.

Meanwhile, President Biden is scheduled to be at the forefront of a star-studded fundraiser at the iconic Radio City Music Hall.

The event promises to be a glitzy affair, featuring musical performances by the likes of Lizzo, Queen Latifah, and Ben Platt.

Adding to the allure, esteemed photographer Annie Leibovitz will be onsite to capture portraits of donors alongside Biden and former Democratic presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, per the Associated Press.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Diller's death have reignited conversations about crime and public safety in the city. The suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting, Guy Rivera, has a troubling criminal history, including multiple arrests and felony charges.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, himself a former police officer, denounced the shooting as a "senseless act of violence." Adams added, "I can’t say it any clearer: It is the good guys against the bad guys, and these bad guys are violent."

Social Media Reactions

Social media erupted with reactions to the contrasting events. Many highlighted Trump's gesture as a sign of genuine concern for law enforcement, while criticizing Biden's participation in a fundraiser amidst the tragedy.

"Vote accordingly," one posted on X.

"Cops don’t matter to the liberal elite. High net-worth donors will further the globalists' agenda," another wrote.

"This speaks volumes as to who cares about what," someone else offered.

"Look who’s really there for the American people," a comment read.

"At least one cares about people the other one [is] just money-grabbing," another chimed in.
