MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: On May 2, Jimmy Kimmel humorously sided with Donald Trump following the former president's $9,000 fine for breaching a gag order in the Stormy Daniels hush money case.

"I don’t think it’s fair," quipped Kimmel, adding, "This trial is about the fact that he paid a woman to be quiet. Now he isn’t quiet, he has to pay them? It makes no sense. They’re using his thing against him."

Trump has also likened himself to Jesus in the case ― and Kimmel wasted no time in taking that comparison to the next level.

“It’s like Jesus, a carpenter, who they nailed to a cross. I mean, think about it,” Kimmel said. “Read about it in your Trump-brand Bibles.”

Judge Juan Merchan said further violations of the gag order could lead to jail time ― and Kimmel said there’s an opening for Melania Trump to get her husband locked up.

“Melania was like, ‘Don’t let the judge tell you what to do. Keep violating. Be a man,’” Kimmel said.

To add context, Judge Juan Merchan found that Trump breached the order nine times recently through posts on his Truth Social platform and campaign website, particularly targeting key witnesses like Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels.

Merchan imposed a fine of $9,000, equating to $1,000 for each violation, and mandated Trump to remove the posts but by the afternoon of May 2, all nine offending posts had been removed.

The judge announced his decision from the bench and issued a written order, stating that Trump's actions violated the order by publicly discussing witnesses' involvement in the case and making statements about jurors involved in the criminal proceedings.

Another said, "How many defendants get to leave trial to go to anything? They have to be there all the time grow up Trump."

Another wrote, "It's a shame that the law prevented the judge from fining him more than 1000 per occurrence."
