WASHINGTON DC: Whoopi Goldberg touched the hearts of audiences everywhere by remembering her 'brother' Robin Williams during an emotionally charged tribute to Billy Crystal at the 46th annual Kennedy Center Honors.

The ceremony, recorded earlier this month and broadcast on Wednesday, December 27, left viewers teary-eyed as the TV legend and the star of 'When Harry Met Sally' embarked on an emotional journey, reminiscing about their dear friend.

As Whoopi Goldberg, 68, took the stage to laud Billy Crystal, one of the honorees of the night, she was visibly moved, reflecting on the absence of one member from their trio.

Goldberg expressed, "I want to acknowledge the person who should also be standing here with me is our brother Robin," as she took a moment to indicate an empty space beside her where the late Academy Award winner should have been.

Addressing the star of 'Forget Paris' once more, the view host paused momentarily to maintain her poise.

"You are my family, youre my big brother, and you have no idea what an honor it is to see you get your due. I love you. You're a mensch. You're a national treasure. National treasure. Billy, congratulations."

Other celebrated performers included Queen Latifah, Dionne Warwick, Renée Fleming, and Barry Gibb, with Gloria Estefan presiding over the evening as the host.

Recently, the internet celebrated Shakira as the singer was commemorated with a statue in her hometown.

At the Kennedy Center Honors taping earlier this month, the 75-year-old Crystal expressed his deep admiration for the star of 'Jumanji' to the red carpet reporters.

Williams had been a part of Crystal's 2007 Mark Twain Prize for Humor ceremony held at the city’s renowned John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, per People.

"That was awesome, and all my friends were there," Crystal recounted. "Beyond that, [the awards are] an appreciation for your body of work, your lifetime body of work."

"I'm really feeling I'm missing my friend Robin tonight, very much so, because of all of what we did together," the star stated of his late friend. "I know that he would be here, and he is. So it's special, and a lot of feelings for me tonight."

People online were left teary-eyed by Whoopi Goldberg's emotionally charged tribute to Billy Crystal and Robin Williams.

One fan wrote on Facebook, "I was crying from the get go. The three of you are tremendous."

"He certainly is a National Treasure. And yes we miss Robyn," commented another. 

"Brought tears to my eyes," said an emotional fan.
