LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Renowned magician David Copperfield has shot down the sexual misconduct allegations made by over twelve women dating back to the late 1980s.

Following a report of The Guardian on Wednesday, May 15, the 67-year-old's representative said that Copperfield is contemplating legal action against the outlet.

The report contains allegations from 16 women, more than half of whom alleged that they were underage at the time. The allegations, one of which was previously made publicly in 2018, came from interviews the newspaper conducted with more than 100 people, as well as court and police records.

What did David Copperfield's representative say?

“Everyone that knows David Copperfield will tell you that these recent allegations from one newspaper are the exact opposite of who David is,” the representative told People. “Most of these historic accusations have been made before, and all of them are as false now as they were then.”

“David requested the ‘evidence’ upon which these false allegations claim to rely and this has not been provided," the representative's statement continues. "By contrast, whenever US law enforcement has looked into such matters, they have been investigated thoroughly and it has been found that there is simply no case to answer.”

"The Guardian’s characterization is not who David is, and he continues to support anyone who has experienced any form of abuse or discrimination," the statement concluded, adding, "David will be considering the position with his legal team and will take such steps as may be appropriate over these false and scurrilous allegations.”

David Copperfield has previously faced allegations of misconduct

It is not the first time though that the illusionist has faced allegations of misconduct.

In 2018, he was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old minor in 1988, a claim which came hours after Copperfield called for people to not quickly judge others during the #MeToo movement.

In 2007, Copperfield was also accused of sexual assault but charges were never filed and the case was dropped.

Internet says David Copperfield will 'make these accusations disappear'

X users poked fun and slammed Copperfield after he denied the sexual misconduct allegations brought by the victims.

One user wrote, "For his next trick, he’ll try to make these accusations disappear." Another said, "A substantial cash settlement will make those allegations DISAPPEAR!" "More like David 'Copp a feel'" joked one.

"With that stare, I bet there's more..." opined one user and another added, "They were originally 8, but he cut them in half during that one trick."
