FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA: The legal team of Donald Trump filed a new request in court on Monday, May 27, asking a federal judge to dismiss a gag order that stops him from making comments about the law enforcement officials who raided his Mar-a-Lago property in 2022 as part of a sensitive documents case.

The lawyers have also sought penalties for “all government attorneys who participated in the decision to file the Motion,” as reported by CNN.

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. Trump’s team calls gag order request ‘unconstitutional censorship application’

Filing the request before the US District Judge Aileen Cannon, the ex-leader attorneys called the gag order request, filed by special counsel Jack Smith's office, an “extraordinary, unprecedented, and unconstitutional censorship application.”

The filing also noted that the special counsel “improperly asks the Court to impose an unconstitutional gag order on President Trump, based on vague and unsupported assertions about threats to law enforcement personnel whose names have been redacted from public filings and whose identities are already subject to a protective order.”

The request accused the prosecutors of “seeking to condition President Trump’s liberty on his compliance.”

Special counsel’s office prosecutors blamed Trump for ‘endangering’ officers’ lives

The action was taken by Trump’s legal time after on Friday, May 24, Smith's office prosecutors filed the request for the gag order on Trump.

Their motion reportedly said, “Trump‘s repeated mischaracterization as an attempt to kill him, his family, and Secret Service agents has endangered law enforcement officers involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case and threatened the integrity of these proceedings.”

They also asserted that the 77-year-old Republican’s statements made against the law enforcement officers “invite the sort of threats and harassment that have occurred when other participants in legal proceedings against Trump have been targeted by his invective.”
