EAGLE PASS, TEXAS: Former President Donald Trump revealed he has not yet decided on the number of weeks after which abortion should be banned, reported The Hill.

In a conversation with Fox News' Sean Hannity, the GOP frontrunner said, "More and more I'm hearing about 15 weeks. I haven't decided yet."

His latest remarks contradict reports of him privately indicating his support for a 16-week federal ban. In February, New York Times reported that Trump told his advisers and allies about a 16-week ban which includes exceptions for cases of rape, incest, and when the life of the mother is at risk.

Abortion has become a heated debate point in the 2024 election as Democrats claim the ex-president would take away women's reproductive rights if he wins in November.

Revoking Roe v Wade in 2022, SCOTUS gave the states the green light to ban abortion. Many conservative states immediately passed laws to prohibit or severely restrict abortion outright.

Speaking to Hannity, the former President stated, "Also, we got it back to the states where it belongs. A lot of states are taking very strong stances," pointing at Kansas and Ohio.

"The number 15 is mentioned. I haven't agreed to any number. I'm going to see. We want to take an issue that was very polarizing and get it settled and solved so everybody can be happy," he added.

Trump, the potential Republican nominee in the upcoming presidential election, has frequently dodged questions about the chances of a national abortion ban if he enters the White House for a second term.

Furthermore, he also accused the Republicans of their abortion stance as a reason for their poor performance in the 2022 midterm election.

However, the White House hopeful has declared he is responsible for the overturning of Roe v Wade as a result of his appointment of three conservative justices in the Supreme Court during his presidency.

Concurrently, he also weighed upon the recent Alabama Supreme Court ruling on frozen embryos as "very harsh." Trump had earlier voiced his "strong support" for IVF after the Alabama SC ruling cast uncertainty on the treatment after it ruled frozen embryos are children.
