WASHINGTON, DC: Vivek Ramaswamy stirred debate by questioning Vice President Kamala Harris' competence to oversee US artificial intelligence (AI) policy.

The entrepreneur, who recently dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed former President Donald Trump, threw harsh remarks at the VP's supposed grasp of technology issues in an X (formerly Twitter) post on Tuesday, January 16.

He wrote, "Kamala is in charge of AI policy right now. In a debate, I’d challenge her to see if she can spell 'AI.' I’d bet on the same blank stare I got from Nikki when I asked her to name 3 provinces in eastern Ukraine."

Notably, Ramaswamy was referencing a comment from conservative pundit Jack Posobiec about how he would fare against Harris in a debate.

Kamala Harris faced criticism in the past for appearing to lack fluency in artificial intelligence

In July 2023, a roundtable discussion hosted by Vice President Harris, aimed at examining issues around AI bias and discrimination, made headlines when her opening comments veered into difficult-to-follow terrain, as reported by the New York Post

She noted, "I think the first part of this issue that should be articulated is AI is kind of a fancy thing," adding, "First of all, it’s two letters. It means artificial intelligence, but ultimately what it is, is it’s about machine learning."

Harris went on to reflect on the nature of algorithmic decision-making, though her phrasing struck some listeners as obscure. Clips of the remarks circulated widely online, with mockery from conservative media pundits.

At the time, Ramaswamy derided the VP on X (formerly Twitter), writing, "I don’t think Kamala Harris is capable of directing US policy on AI. My guess is she has some difficulty even spelling it."

Internet mocks Kamala Harris as Vivek Ramaswamy questions her knowledge of AI

Upon catching wind of Ramaswamy's recent challenge to Harris on her knowledge of AI, the Internet wasted no time in expressing its sentiments.

One jested, "'AI are 2 letters of the alphabet, I know the alphabet' and then she’d proceed to say her ABC’s but mess them up," while another expressed, "Oh please let there be a Vivek and Harris debate. PLEASE!!!"

"I challenge her to say 'AI' without turning it into a word salad," quipped a person, and someone else added, "And Joe Biden will interject: 'I got two words for you: Made In America!'."

An individual backed Ramaswamy, saying, "This alone would make Vivek as a VP pick worth it."

One more mentioned, "She would just go off about Venn diagrams, electric school buses and then start hysterically laughing about something while reframing the same 5 words over and over into a massive run on sentence."
