Internet mourns LA news anchor Chauncy Glover as medical report reveals drug intoxication led to death

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Beloved TV news anchor Chauncy Glover died from "acute intoxication by the combined effects of chloroethane and methamphetamine," TMZ reported on Wednesday, February 19. 

Glover, a prominent face of the Los Angeles affiliate of CBS News, KCAL-TV, was discovered unresponsive in his home on the night of the general election, November 5, 2024, and pronounced dead after midnight the following day. He was 39 years old at the time.

Taking to air at 5 pm and 11 pm in the evenings, before shifting his slots to 8 pm and 10 pm soon before his untimely demise, Glover won three Regional Emmys over his short-lived career. One of them was in 2017 when he saved a woman and helped deliver her baby while covering Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas.

Emmy-winning TV anchor Chauncy Glover's death has been ruled an accident

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner announced Chauncy Glover's cause of death in a statement on Wednesday. His death has been ruled as an accident, but the full report will not be released until the end of next month.

As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), chloroethane is a colorless, flammable gas with a sharp odor that is used to numb the skin before piercings and to treat sports injuries, as well as produce dyes, solvents, and refrigerants. At the time of his death, Glover's family did not comment on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, as per KTLA 5.

However, his friend and publicist Jordyn Dean issued a statement, saying, "Chauncy was more than just an extraordinary journalist and community leader; he was like family. Chauncy had a rare, genuine kindness that showed up in everything he did. He helped people without asking for anything in return, simply because he wanted the best for everyone around him.”

Internet shares their condolences over Chauncy Glover's untimely death

Netizens were in shock after Chauncy Glover's cause of death was revealed by the LA County Medical Examiner, and many took to social media to mourn the loss of a talented anchor. 

One wrote, "Wow, from meth. Sad for such a talented young man," and another said, "That’s a lot to take in." 

"Oh damn, was not expecting this to be the cause," a person wrote, with one more saying, "This is beyond sad. rest in peace."

"That's very sad to hear. Reminds me of a KTLA morning anchor that died several years ago of a similar drug issue," an individual expressed.
