WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump renewed his endorsement of Rep Nancy Mace, despite previously describing her as an "absolutely terrible candidate," reported the New York Post.

The Republican presumptive nominee on Monday, June 10, announced his support to the congresswoman from South Carolina on Truth Social, praising her hard work for his victory in the Palmetto State's primary race.

"It is my great honor to Endorse a Strong Conservative Voice for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District," Trump wrote.

The 45th President renewing his endorsement of Mace could be seen as a reversal of his earlier disdain for her, which stemmed from her criticism of his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results

"Nancy Mace worked hard campaigning across South Carolina in support of our Record-Breaking WIN," Trump continued. He added, "In Congress, she is fighting to Secure the Border, Strengthen our Military, Support our Veterans, Uphold the Rule of Law, Stop Political Weaponization, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment."

Trump's declaration of support for the 46-year-old lawmaker in the GOP primary on June 11 serves as a reminder to voters of his changed stance, especially since she didn't receive his endorsement in the 2022 midterm elections.

The former president had previously viewed Mace's harsh criticism of him following the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack as an act of disloyalty.

"Everything that he's worked for … his entire legacy, was wiped out yesterday," the congresswoman had said a day after pro-Trump protestors unleashed violence at the Capitol to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Biden's 2020 election win. "And we've got to start over," she added in an interview with CNN.

Later that month, Mace urged to hold Trump "accountable" while denouncing his action during a House floor speech.

The MAGA spearhead, who was later indicted for allegedly instigating the Capitol riot, refused to endorse Mace in the 2022 race and called her an "absolutely terrible candidate" who was "disloyal" towards the GOP.

However, she endorsed the former president's 2024 White House bid in January, and now Trump returned the favor by re-endorsing her a day before her primary election.

"Congresswoman Nancy Mace has my Complete and Total Endorsement! South Carolina, Get out to Vote TOMORROW!" Trump's Truth Social post read.

Mace would face her Republican rival Catherine Templeton, a former South Carolina state official, in the June 11  primary.

Internet fumes as Trump endorses Nancy Mace

Netizens had an unwelcoming approach towards Trump's re-endorsement to Mace ahead of the upcoming GOP primary race.

One user wrote, "Today RINO Donald Trump endorsed Nancy Mace. He said it is his honor to do so. Nancy Mace has become one of the biggest Trump A** kissers in congress. Don The Con was singing another tune just a few years ago when he called her a horrendous RINO. What a joke the GOP has become."

Another remarked, "Trump has no core convictions. Unlike the other leaders on the world stage on the right, who are motivated by a philosophy, Trump is motivated by flattery. No principles."

"Nancy Mace is a liberal so of course Trump endorses her. Nothing matters in the GOP anymore," added a user.

A response read, "Nancy Mace is probably the biggest RINO in the state of South Carolina and that's saying something. More terrible Trump endorsements." Another person said, "@NancyMace is a disaster. Trump doesn't care."

"Trump doesn't get to say he's 'draining the swamp,' when he's actively trying to get more of the swamp elected," someone else claimed.
