Internet says 'bring the OG’s back' as Courteney Cox rumored to be in talks to star in 'Scream 7'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After Neve Campbell’s return to the ‘Scream’ franchise was confirmed by the actress herself, rumor in Hollywood is that the other OG cast member Courteney Cox is in talks with the producers to appear in the seventh installment of the horror franchise.
The 'Friends' alum may reprise her role as Gale Weathers in ‘Scream 7’ which was facing a debatable future after the exits of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, per Hollywood Life.
After Campbell, 50, announced she was returning for the sequel, fans are eagerly waiting for Cox to return for the seventh film which was previously delayed because of the Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes in 2023.

Where does ‘Scream 7’ stand now?
Following ‘Scream 6’s’ phenomenal success the ‘Core Four’ of the film - Jenna Ortega as Tara, Melissa Barrera as Sam, Mason Gooding as Chad, and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy - were touted to come back for the sequel.
However, in November, Melissa was fired from the film owing to her comments regarding the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. It was reported later that Ortega was also not returning for the film over schedule conflict.
Following two back-to-back exits, Campbell announced in March that she’d reprise her role as Sidney Prescott for the seventh film in the franchise.
In August 2023, it was announced that director Christopher Landon was roped in as the new director replacing his predecessors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. However, following Melissa’s departure, it was also announced that the screenwriter of ‘Scream’, ‘Scream 2’, and ‘Scream 4’, Kevin Williamson, will be directing ‘Scream 7’.
Campbell announced her return through an Instagram post made in mid-March. She wrote, "Hi All. I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!" before adding, "It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned," per Entertainment Weekly.
She continued, "I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!" and added, "Well actually I could. While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented [Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin] team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm.”

She wrote, “And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7! This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set."
