Internet scoffs at Trump's 'lies' as he rallies MAGA base to finish Nikki Haley in South Carolina primary
ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA: In an attempt to deal a decisive blow in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, former president Donald Trump gathered a jam-packed, boisterous audience on Friday, February 23, in Rock Hill.
On the eve of the South Carolina primary, around 6,000 people had flocked to see Trump in a Winthrop University sports stadium, many standing in line hours in advance.
Trump leads his lone opponent, Nikki Haley by a margin of more than 30 points in the average poll conducted by The Hill and Decision Desk HQ. Haley was born and reared in the state, where she also won two elections for governor before resigning to take a position as Trump's UN ambassador.
No love lost between Trump and Haley
In front of the audience, Trump declared that Haley had "gone very far left" and was "working for Democrat donors", adding, "She’s going to have a very bad day tomorrow because she’s not a nice person".
Strangely, considering Trump's inclination toward personal jabs, he also said that Haley is "extremely impolite". The number of people who attended Trump's rally on Friday was far more than the attendance of Haley's rallies here in the closing days, and it was also mostly composed of working-class voters.
Haley has maintained that Trump would lose a general election, made fun of him for not serving in the military, and said that he frequently loses his cool. According to Haley's camp, she will continue competing until at least Super Tuesday on March 5.
Haley's campaign manager, Betsy Ankney, informed reporters on Friday morning that the campaign has reserved a seven-figure national advertising buy with an eye toward the future. Ankney refused to discuss any "benchmarks" about a Saturday outcome that may force Haley out of the competition.
However, Team Trump seems to be pressing hard to force Haley out of the race.
In a brief interview with The Hill, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) claimed that Haley is "delusional" and that she will soon be "humiliated" in her state. Several supporters interrupted the divisive congresswoman as she made her way across the arena to meet with The Hill.
