GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA: Nikki Haley found herself embroiled in controversy on Tuesday, February 20, after the struggling GOP presidential candidate gave a fiery speech refusing to exit the race while lobbing accusations that frontrunner Donald Trump may be exhibiting signs of dementia.

Haley's incendiary remarks during a rally in South Carolina prompted outrage online from critics who slammed her comments as "embarrassing" and the act of a desperate candidate. Nonetheless, Haley has defiantly made it clear that she plans to keep taking on Trump in the hopes of positioning herself as a conservative alternative, as per Daily Mail.

Nikki Haley doubles down on presidential race despite trailing Trump in polls

Addressing supporters in Greenville, South Carolina, Haley pushed back against calls for her to drop out of the GOP primary race after failing to win any state so far. "Some of you, perhaps a few of you in the media, came here today to see if I'm dropping out of the race," Haley said. "Well, I'm not, far from it."

Despite polls showing her trailing Trump by double-digits in her home state of South Carolina, Haley remained defiant, dismissing suggestions to exit as coming from the "political elite." She pointed to the 21 states and territories that are yet to vote in the next 10 days.

"Dropping out would be the easy route. I've never taken the easy route," Haley said. "I’ve been the underdog in every race I’ve ever run. I'm not just fighting someone bigger than me, I'm fighting for something bigger than myself."

Nikki Haley escalates attacks on Trump's mental fitness

In an escalation of her criticism of Trump, Haley described the Republican frontrunner as "unstable" and "unhinged" in her speech.

"We don’t anoint kings in this country. We have elections, and Donald Trump, of all people, should know we don’t rig elections!" Haley said.

She argued Trump is the "only Republican Biden can beat" in a general election and said the country does not need "more chaos and craziness."

In her most controversial comments, Haley questioned Trump's mental acuity to handle the presidency.

"We’re talking about the most demanding job in human history. You don’t give it to someone who’s at risk of dementia," Haley said about the 77-year-old Trump.
