Tim Scott faces backlash as he urges Nikki Haley to drop out of presidential race for the good of nation
NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA: Former GOP presidential candidate Sen Tim Scott reiterated his calls for Nikki Haley to end her presidential campaign bid 'for the good of the country', reported New York Post.
Reporters questioned Scott after he cast his early vote in the South Carolina GOP primary, asking whether the former UN Ambassador, who first appointed him to the Senate in December 2012, should withdraw from the race "for the good of the party."
"Well, I think [she should] for the good of the country," the Senator replied.
He made a similar demand in a recent interview with Fox News, urging her to realize the "race is already over."
The Republican presidential primary narrowed down into a two-person race between the former South Carolina Governor and former president Donald Trump after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suspended his campaign in January.
Scott, who is on the list of the GOP frontrunner's vice president picks, ended his presidential race in November 2023.
Tim Scott says Nikki Haley hinders conversation between Biden and Trump
The Senator, who endorsed Trump after his resounding victory at the Iowa caucus, recalled his decision to pull out of the race for the ex-President.
"I mean, the bottom line is β¦ I made the determination myself back in November that America wanted someone that was more forceful, more provocative, and a little bit more rambunctious to help clean out some of the challenges that are stubborn and persistent in our nation," the he emphasized.
"The one person that stands in the way of having a conversation between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is Nikki Haley, and so getting out of the way, is incredibly important, not for the party, but for America's future," Scott added.

Despite failing to make any lead against Trump so far, along with the latter's dominant lead in her home state, Haley decided to continue the uphill battle to grab the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential election.
According to opinion poll analysis by FiveThirtyEight, the former President has a 30-point lead against his sole Republican opponent in the Palmetto state ahead of the primary on February 24.
However, in a recent interview, Haley heavily downplayed her poor polling performance in her home state, citing that her vote share in Iowa and New Hampshire was more than predicted.
