Internet sends prayers as Donald Trump confirms Melania Trump's mother Amalija Knavs is 'very ill'
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump confirmed the reason behind his wife Melania Trump's absence from holiday celebrations, saying that she is currently at her "very ill" mother's side.
During a New Year's Eve speech at his Mar-a-Lago estate, the GOP presidential candidate wished his mother-in-law, Amalija Knavs, a swift recovery, describing her health situation as "a very tough one."
Additionally, he mentioned that he had just gotten off the phone with Melania, who was at a Miami hospital with her sick mother. "Hopefully, she'll be recovering," noted Trump, adding that his wife "sends her love" to all the people gathered in Palm Beach, Florida, according to Daily Mail.

Melania Trump was absent from family holiday photos due to mother's illness
Trump's revelation about Knavs' ailing health explains the former first lady's absence from family Christmas photos posted on social media.
The day after Christmas, Kimberly Guilfoyle, the fiancee of Donald Trump Jr, shared a family snapshot of the Trump clan on her Instagram story. Immediately of notice was Melania's absence from the image.
Subsequently, a source close to her told Fox News, "Melania has always been very devoted to her entire family. It should be no surprise that she spent this Christmas with her ailing mother," as per Fox News.
Recently, there have been reports that Melania may make more public appearances to help her husband's reelection campaign. Her last public appearance came on December 15 when the former first lady, an immigrant herself, appeared at the National Archives for remarks at a naturalization ceremony.
She also joined the other first ladies at Rosalynn Carter's funeral in November, even though her husband was absent from the event.
