EL PASO, TEXAS: A Democrat accused of "pandering" to Black voters with taxpayer-funded reparations is contesting one of the most competitive Senate races of the year.

The conservative Win it Back PAC announced on Friday, June 7, that it has launched a new advertisement as part of a massive seven-figure media buy, specifically criticizing Colin Allred, the Democratic nominee for the Texas Senate, for what it claims are his ties to the movement for reparations for Black Americans.

The advertisement is aimed at Hispanic voters

The Texas Democratic Convention is being held in the city on Friday, June 7, when the advertisement is aimed at Hispanic voters, who, according to group research, are primarily against reparations. The advertisement will run in both English and Spanish, Fox News reports.

'I'm not okay with' Colin Allred taking 'tax dollars to pay for reparations,' says a Hispanic woman

"My grandparents came in the sixties in search of the American Dream. They were farmworkers. My grandma would always say, ‘con tanto sacrificio,’" a Hispanic woman named Sonia said in the advertisement citing a Spanish phrase meaning "with much sacrifice."

"Like, nobody gave me this, and nobody is going to take it away. Colin Allred would take our tax dollars to pay for reparations. I'm not okay with it — to take away from one group to pander to another group. I grew up poor, and I've worked really hard, and I don't feel like it's fair for me to have to pay for that. It's all pandering. Collin Allred is not fighting for us," she added.

A 2022 Pew Research Center study found that most Hispanic voters (58%) oppose giving money or land back to the descendants of slaves in America.

Allred has served in groups with pro-reparations positions, including as Vice Chair on the Board of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation as well as being a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

In the November general election, Allred faces a significant deficit against incumbent Texas Senator Ted Cruz, according to the scant polling conducted on the race. The state is known for its Republican leanings.

Internet says 'no living person deserves reparations'

Netizens also expressed their opinions after Allred was accused of pandering to Black voters with taxpayer-funded reparations. One X user tweeted, "No living person deserves reparations" while another opined, "It's a tricky situation. On one hand, reparations are a serious issue that deserves attention. On the other hand, it can look like pandering if it's just brought up during election season."

"Pandering to black voters is racist… literally choosing people based on the color of their skin is racism… why can democrats not understand that," wrote one and another added, "He's a socialist and he also helped distribute cards to illegals on how to beat the system. Disgusting and pathetic!" "Time to pay up! America first," tweeted a user.
