ATLANTA, GEORGIA: In a dramatic turn of events at the Fulton County Superior Court on Thursday, February 15, a longtime friend of embattled District Attorney Fani Willis testified via Zoom that she witnessed the latter engaging in romantic behavior with lead prosecutor Nathan Wade in 2019.

The revelation has cast doubt on the timeline provided by Willis and Wade regarding the start of their relationship.

Contradictions unveiled in court

Robin Bryant-Yeartie, a witness at the hearing, stated unequivocally that she had "no doubt" that the romantic involvement between Willis and Wade dated back to 2019.

This contradicted assertions made by both parties that their relationship began in 2022 after Wade was appointed as the special prosecutor for the case targeting former president Donald Trump's alleged election fraud.

"You have no doubt that their romantic relationship was in effect from 2019 until the last time you spoke with her?" Ashleigh Merchant, an attorney representing Trump co-defendant Michael Roman - asked Bryant-Yeartie.

The witness said that she had "no doubt."

"And that's based on your personal observations and... speaking with them and seeing them together and things like that?" Merchant asked, to which the witness replied, "Yes."

Bryant-Yeartie's testimony detailed instances where she personally observed Willis and Wade "hugging" and "kissing" on multiple occasions, directly challenging the narrative put forth by the accused.

The witness, who claimed to have been friends with Willis since 1991, ceased communication with her in 2021 after resigning as a media representative for the DA's office.

However, Fulton County DA Ana Cross insinuated that Bryant-Yeartie may have ulterior motives, suggesting that her resignation was not entirely voluntary and that she harbored resentment toward Willis. Cross implied that Bryant-Yeartie's testimony might be influenced by personal animosity rather than objective observation.

The defense attorneys for Trump and his co-defendant, former White House staffer Mike Roman, seized on Bryant-Yeartie's testimony to argue for the disqualification of Willis and Wade from the case, citing conflicts of interest arising from their alleged preexisting relationship.

Fani Willis denies allegations

In a fiery exchange, Fani Willis vehemently denied the allegations, accusing the defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant of dishonesty and defending her integrity.

“I’ve been in my office pacing,” she said, before accusing Merchant of lying earlier this week as the latter argued for Willis and Wade to be forced to testify.

“You lied on Monday and yet here we are,” Willis told Merchant, before adding, “How dishonest you were with the court on Monday, I’m actually surprised the hearing continued. But since it did here I am.”

Willis later said she was "extremely" offended that Merchant implied she slept with Wade at an October 2019 conference.

“I very much want to be here,” she said, adding, “I am not a hostile witness.”

Wade, who took the stand earlier in the day, reiterated his claim that his relationship with Willis did not become intimate until after he was appointed as the lead prosecutor. He attributed his lack of experience in complex RICO cases to his battle with cancer in 2020 and 2021, claiming that he was not dating anyone during that time.

Judge Scott McAfee, presiding over the hearing, expressed his intention to thoroughly investigate the nature and timing of the relationship between Willis and Wade before deciding on their potential disqualification from the case. He noted they could be disqualified "if evidence is produced demonstrating an actual conflict or the appearance of one."

McAfee said he wanted to explore "whether a relationship existed, whether that relationship was romantic or nonromantic in nature when it formed, and whether it continues."

Social media reactions to Bryant-Yeartie's testimony

Despite Fani Willis' staunch defense, social media reactions to Bryant-Yeartie's testimony were swift and critical.

"Fani is cooked. She perjured herself. They better throw this case out," one posted on X.

"Fani lied under oath. Game over," another alleged.

"I trust the friend. Willis is acting out," someone else added.

"THEY GOT CAUGHT - this is one reason how we know this case is fraudulent!" a comment read.

"Pres. Trump's legal team should make a motion to have the case dismissed," another suggested.
